No this race was not an endorsement of racism

It’s nice that Trump has been on his best behavior for two days, but that is hardly the ‘true’ Trump. He’s an opportunistic authoritarian. Right now, he wants to burnish his image after a long, vicious campaign by appearing conciliatory and presidential. When he wants something different, he’ll act differently.

Trump chose language that allowed the asshole racist supremacists to say, “You see? He’s just like us and endorses everything we stand for.” The media then took that and ran with it. And then some (many!) people bought that.

Smoke and mirrors.

When you look at the entirety of what Trump said, it does not endorse the asshole racist supremacist’s position. (BTW you can replace ‘asshole racist supremacist’ with male chauvinist pig or with xenophobe or with anti-Muslim)

Do you really think we will start getting asshole racist supremacist laws? Wait, don’t answer that, let’s let time tell. I could be wrong in my position. You could be too. Or what happens might fall somewhere in between.

Let’s see what actually happens.

Nonsense.

I can find more examples if you like, I’ve been reading about them all day. Assault, mugging, intimidation, theft, arson, vandalism. Can’t find any cases of murder yet, but hey, it’s only been two days.

Unfortunately hate and violence exist on both sides. Violence erupts around U.S. amid large protests over Trump victory - LifeSite

There are always exceptions. Let us see what is developed by Trump, and not by the jerk exceptions on either side.

What? You just said Trump supporters do not hate. Which is it?

No, let’s not. Rather, let us agree your claim is false.

This is really interesting. I know people that solely voted for Trump because they viewed Clinton as pro-abortion. And honestly, when she stated her stance during the second debate, I was shocked. I agreed with her, but knew also that lots would see that as a line in the sand. Sadly, I get that liberals are tired of having to always “pussy-foot around and be the nice ones” (a Facebook quote I saw today), but there is absolutely no way we’ll ever bridge a gap between here and there by being balls to the wall. Simple as that.

Thanks for the article. I’m saving it.

that is the 2016 election in a nutshell; you’ve said it best. Sadly, its a result of Obama’s “transformative Presidency.” He wanted a left-wing Reagan Revolution, and he got it in spades. And now that Bernie is the new power broker, it looks like they’ll go even harder left.

ok from a British point of view.

Not all trump supporters where racist, many are though, id say the rest where just gullible or easily fooled.

But the one thing you have to look at, then look deep down in yourself.

When so many racist groups such as the KKK, etc, approve of the president and are excited about him and his policys you have to soul search and ask, are you a an institutional racist, and if trump himself is not racist, why do so many extreme racists like his views an opinions,

like the old saying, “there is no smoke without fire”

Please give us the details of the left wing Reagan Revolution that President Obama forced on you.

And you aren’t doing your side any good with that “not a racist” claim.

Your country democratically elected a proven racist and misogynist.

I think Americans should own that instead of trying to pretend it was some accident that came out of nowhere.

Thats what your country is, you elected a racist clown, stop looking for other people to blame and own that shit.

Bucketybuck is right. There have been hundreds of racist incidents of many sorts, in many parts of the US over the past two days, most of them provably the result of Trump’s victory emboldening racist jerks. I don’t have time now to give cites, so just trust me on this, please. Two in the news occurred within a mile of my house – and this is a county known for its super-friendly neighbors, and which favored Clinton by ten percentage points.

These fuckwads were ALWAYS racist, only now they suddenly feel it’s socially acceptable to express their racism blatantly. Trump may have toned down his own rhetoric, but it’s too late – having the very pinnacle of power be occupied by someone like him, plus the “validation” and safety in numbers that comes with seeing half the voting US population vote for him (even if only a minority of these voters are actually racist), has given these fucks carte blanche (in their minds).

a. I did not make a claim. You did.
b. Oh I have all the polling data that suggested Johnson supporters were 50/50 and that when given only two choices the spread stayed about the same … but right now I’m hesitant to use polls as much of a cite!
c. It’s also clear that his views on a variety of issues, such as marijuana legalization, gay marriage, and much more, were far out of line with the GOP mainstream than with the Democrats.

Did you even read the article? These are Clinton supporters inciting violence, vandalism, hate.

But that last bit there goes both ways.

If asked during the campaign what I thought of folks who are here unlawfully, I’d reply that illegal immigrants should be treated like lawbreakers; and I’d be called a racist for saying so. And I’d say that, no, if you’re white and here illegally, you should be treated like a lawbreaker likewise; and I’d get called a racist anyway.

So if I’m told that a guy expressed racist views, I have no idea what that means. It might mean that he agreed with me; or that he said that All Lives Matter; or that he said President Obama lied about something; or any one of a dozen other things; expressing any of those sentiments could get branded as socially unacceptable in general, by getting branded as “racist” in particular.

Is it now socially acceptable to say a bunch of things that were recently drawing the “racist” accusation? Yeah, I guess. Is that a big part of why some now think sentiments that actually are racist are now socially acceptable too? Could be.

Not *all *Trump supporters. But more than the population at large.

If we can indulge in stereotypes, I’d take the habitual videogamers over the generation that garnered the reputation for being so afraid of either dying or killing that they mostly sprayed and prayed from their foxholes. Even though that reputation is not very well-founded: we are, after all, indulging in stereotypes.

They think they’re not racists because they’re not out burning crosses and dropping the “n” word like just another part of speech. There’s a little bit more to it than that.

Which, again, goes both ways: some people toss the word “racist” around upon hearing that someone is opposed to affirmative action; and some toss the word “racist” around upon hearing that someone thinks the jury got it right when it came to Trayvon Martin and George Zimmerman; and some toss the word “racist” around upon simply hearing that someone is a Trump voter. There’s more to it than that, likewise.
