Ah, the iPhone4 bad antenna design defense.

Actually I checked and not clearing cookies was the choice in my current preferences so I am changing to clear cookies to see if that makes a difference.

More like the “Minis are too small for most bugs to fit into” quantum mechanical theory.

OK – had the time today so I ran some tests. Cookies cleared or not, after about 10 minutes I get bumped out and have to log in again. Not a big deal - but there it is.

Years ago this happened to me when I posted from work. I think I was on Mozilla at the time. It never happened at home, and never happened on Firefox.

Things are very browser sensitive. On a Firefox 1 smilies and the bold buttons stopped working under XP, but started again when I got Firefox 2 and Vista.

Could people give their OS and browsers please? (Those with the problem.)
I’m running Firefox 3 under Solaris and Vista, and don’t have the problem.

But I’m also a charter member. And perhaps > 20K posts gives you privileges. :stuck_out_tongue:

I see that I owe apologies all around for the original rant - the problem must be with my settings, and not with the protocols of the Board. In the heat of the moment, I suppressed the logic that surely not all Dopers were suffering the same problem.

Thanks to all for the suggestions and insight. I will review my Internet/Dope settings and see if I can’t find what’s broken.

In response to Voyager - I am running Windows XP and IE 8.

Testing - I have switched my IE cookies filter from “Medium” to “Low”.

A thorough clearout of cookies, history, cache and everything seems to have fixed my problems too (for now at least).

I’ve had the problem, too (it isn’t just guests), and I figured out what it is: forgetting to check the “remember me” box when logging in.

Don’t check the box: get booted.
Check the box: don’t get booted.

If you don’t want to have to have your cookie settings on low, put it on medium, then use the Custom option to put in an exception for this site. I promise they won’t give you any bad cookies.

Clearing cookies didn’t solve the problem.

Checking “Remember me” did.

Thanks, Wombat

You are quite welcome!
