No Zombie love? (Left 4 Dead)

I don’t know if it’s CAL, TWL, or GameBattles who did it, but one of them specifically banned the top-of-the-ladder ambush tactic. If it weren’t for that one move, I don’t have a problem with the rage meter abuse.

I wonder though, could you delay the Blood Harvest finale “indefinitely” by hitting chair (or some other object) out of the house and into some corner where the survivors couldn’t find you?

Can you really pounce a witch and kite her into the survivors? That is so hot if you can. I must try it.

Do you know the pixel perfect location for a smoker to kill off the ladder during the No Mercy finale? I’ve done it twice, but that’s in about 50 tries. Was it patched and I haven’t noticed?

If you’re on the tower with the satellite dish with a smoker, you should get the one shot kill if you get someone after they come up the ladder.

Yes, you can send a Witch out at the survivors. I’m not exactly sure what the circumstances are, but I think she has to be remotely annoyed with them. Swat her in the back of the head and watch her take someone down.

I’ve pulled survivors down from the roof several times. I’ve yet to get a one shot kill.
My finest hour as a smoker was when i dragged a survivor out of the elevator just as the doors were closing.

Huh. How’d it go after that? The elevator doesn’t go back up.

You can delay the blood harvest finale for a while by hiding the first tank out in the cornfield. After a certain period of time, I believe the survivors automatically lose if they don’t go out into the cornfield and defeat the tank. It’s clearly an exploitative use of tank, and I think an obvious no-no in SDMB play.

You can pounce the witch, and get her to chase you to relocate her. I frown on this, personally. Separately, an infected can agitate her so that the moment a survivor gets into range, she attacks them, even if they don’t shoot her or walk very close. I’m more iffy on that, but still generally frown on it.

I’m not sure where that spot is for instant falling death exactly. I’ve never managed to hit it on the PC version, but I believe the 360 version allows it from almost anywhere on the satellite dish roof. It may not work identically in both, I’m not sure. Even if you miss, the fall does significant damage, so it’s worth doing either way.

Here is a video of someone else doing the same thing.

sigh. Stupid console that wouldn’t connect on Sunday night…kept getting “Failed to join game” for some reason, even though test connections to Live were just fine. Probably didn’t work because I suck so bad at the game. heh. Still wanna try again, though, if you don’t mind an anchor weighing down the team. When can we try it again?

Re: Human Director. Yes, with heavy console use, and one person in spectate mode, you can do this. It’s not official in any way. And it is fun . . . among friends.

As far as exploits versus legitimate tactics, I agree with the “is it fun?” test. The reason I don’t like closet camping in versus is that it basically denies one team the ability to even play the freaking game for several minutes. How is that fun?

I’m not sure how I feel about the tank issue. But given the rise of teams killing tanks in seconds, it might indeed make the game more fun, as long as it’s used judiciously.

Kiting the witch doesn’t really bother me either, given the players know it can be done. It even jibes with the developers’ approach - in the commentary they point out how the infected fight amongst themselves, when survivors aren’t around.

I have a friend who wants to use a cheap trick (like closets) any time he can. The rest of us usually let him do it once to prove the concept and if it sucks ass (like closets) we refuse to do it again.

I was playing one game with a group of strangers. We were in No Mercy where we had to wait for the elevator. One guy says “Everyone get in the closet”. Me and another guy say, “Fuck that, closet’s lame. Let’s actually play the game”.

So, that one guy and the quiet one go into the closet. Me and the other hater battle it out in front of the elevator like real men. About 30 seconds into it, the quiet guy joins us outside. The guy in the closet just starts shrieking about what asshole faggots we are and how we’re gonna die and he’ll laugh and fuck us. Then he initiates a kick vote against me. It fails.

Then I get sick of his ass and unload my autoshotgun into him through the closet wall. Turns out survivor outlines have more than one use. Whoda thunk it? With him laying there incapacitated the three of us get into the elevator. Then we kick him off the server.

I hate that lame crap.

That’s nice, but not that impressive. I once did the closet thing (see friend mentioned above). Typical BS. Elevator comes. The four of us head out from the closet to the elevator and we were simultaneously jumped by three hunters and a smoker.

From full health to game over in under a second. It was pretty impressive.

Ok, I just got this game today (for PC.) I have a couple quick questions (sorry, but nine pages is a lot to read through…

Is there any difference between the characters? I tend to just let it automatch me, and I seem to be Louis 99% of the time, so does he suck or something?

And as far as weapons go, am I correct in assuming that the assault rifle is always better than the submachine gun, and the auto-shotty is better than the pump (they both seem to be “upgrades.”) And there isn’t any “before” version of the hunting rifle, right? And how do I use the scope? I’m use to hitting the right mouse button for things like that, but that’s always a melee attack.

No difference between the characters. Yes, the assault rifle and autoshotty are superior in every way to the starting games. There’s no tier 1 hunting rifles. And the scope key has its own keybind in the keyboard options.

I’m not sure what the default keybind is for the hunting rifle’s scope. I have mine set to V, which is I think the default key for voice chat. I bound voice chat to my mouse’s back button which I can hit with my thumb.

Looking at the SDMB community on steam, I’m assuming you’re DrBouvenstein? We usually get a versus game together every night, so we’ll keep you in mind for the next game.

Pretty sure it’s pressing the mouse wheel.

Yeah, that’s me. And versus game? Ehh…so far I did the campaign ones more. Maybe because the few versus games I played i went as the infected to mix things up, and they seem to universally suck. I only spawned as a hunter or smoker, and died in about five seconds every time, then had to wait about thirty more to play for five more seconds.

I’m sure I’d enjoy the versus as a survivor, but what’s the big difference between that and a regular campaign mission?

Whenever is good for you.

In versus, you switch back and forth between survivor and infected. In other words, if you start as a survivor, you run the map until you make it to the safe room or everyone is down, and then you play the infected until the other team makes it or you incap/kill them all. Also, in versus mode, if a survivor dies, that’s it. They’re down until the next round.

To be honest, your life expectancy isn’t very good as infected anyway. The idea is to coordinate an attack, do a fair bit of damage, and then die. A good smoker might live a minute or two tops, whereas a good boomer will probably die within 2 or 3 seconds of spawning.

If you still think versus isn’t your thing, we won’t be offended, though.

There’s a patch today for the 360. Anyone know what it is?

I die in 2 to 3 seconds whether I’m a boomer, smoker, or hunter. I don’t think I’ve inflicted a single point of damage as infected, though I did vomit on someone as a boomer. I also can never pounce on people on a hunter for some reason. I left click…and nothing happens.

You have to crouch and charge your pounce up. Get to where you want to pounce from, hold CTRL for 1 second or more, and then left click. You can move while crouched, but it’s a lot slower, and you’re a lot nosier that way, too.
