No Zombie love? (Left 4 Dead)

This link says that it fixes some cheats people were using. Sounds great, in my book.

Okay, after about three months of playing, I’ve realized that this L4D poster pretty much sums up how I feel playing coop and vs. with other people. :stuck_out_tongue:
But I haven’t played with you steam people yet. I need to get on that!

Lol! Brilliant poster.

I haven’t missed a health pack yet but I’ve had team mates that have and it’s annoying cause you know at that point you’re at a serious disadvantage.

Unless that guy happens to be Matsar or Senor Beef. I swear I’ve been right behind both of them on several occasions and they’re spotting and mowing down zombies before I can even get a bead on them.

I think they’re plugged into the matrix.

Since people have been asking about the human director mode, I thought I’d share some information about it.

The human director mode is basically the same as a normal coop game, but with a human acting as the director, spawning zombies/weapons etc.
It requires some technical fiddling as it is not supported by Valve, and it only works with friends, however it’s a very different, unpredictable and entertaining way of playing coop when you get it to work.
Since a human is spawning zombies, the game becomes much more unpredictable, for example a human director might spawn 3 hunters and 2 boomers at once, where the AI director will never spawn more than 1 of each boss zombie.
It also allows the difficulty to better match the players, for example a highly-coordinated team may face 3 witches and 2 tanks during 1 map.
The games will also typically be more intense (this depends on the director of course), more boss zombies will be used, more witches
Perhaps the most important change is that a human director can spawn zombies much more intelligently, which makes for interesting tactics like distracting the players with boomers ahead of them while spawning smokers behind them.

Although the human director mode has great potential, it’s quite hard to play the human director and it takes a fair bit of skill, luckily the other players don’t need be any more skilled than usual.
It’s quite to hard to balance the intensity when you are the director, it’s very easy to spawn too much or too little, so it’s best if the human director is an experienced player.

If you are interested in being the director or hosting a human director game (be warned, this requires some basic technical proficiency. This does not apply if someone else hosts and you just wanna join a HD game):

To make a human director game you:
Host versus game locally
Turn on sv_cheats (“sv_cheats 1” in console)
The director spectates (“spectate” in console)
Turn off versus mode (director_no_human_zombies 1)
Change the map to the desired map (it can any coop or versus map) with the “changelevel” command. If you have chosen a versus map (versus maps start with “l4d_vs_”) you must type “director_no_human_zombies 1” in the console.

To make it a bit easier to be the director I’ve made some menus (pop up mouse menus like the voice order menu) that make spawning zombies, weapons, items or changing health much easier.
I’ve also made a readme file which contains more detailed information about the human director mode. The menus and the readme file can be downloaded as a zip file here:
http: //www.gigasize.com/get.php?d=p56tl2gdfyc
(alternative link: http: //www.flyupload.com/?fid=486401219 )

Make sure you read the readme file and backup both config.cfg (in the “cfg” folder) and the RadialMenu.txt (in the “scripts” folder) before you extract the zip file into your left 4 dead directory.
The file “RadialMenu.txt” contains the new menus and should replace your old “RadialMenu.txt”. The hdcontrols2.cfg file contains the bindings for the menus, currently bound to “q”, “e”, “z” and “c”.
You may change they key bindings if you want by editing that file, you will need to type “exec hd_controls2” in the console for the key bindings to take effect.

I was at the hospital today and had to be knocked out for a procedure.

When I was starting to wake up afterwards, being rolled through the corrodors, I was either dreaming or hallucinating about the zombies of Mercy hospital. I can’t remember exactly what I said, but I may have tried to warn the nurse about the inevitable horde of zombies coming our way.

That’s precious.

My girlfriend sees zombies when she closes her eyes after she plays.

It’s like Tetris, in that respect.

I got L4D for Christmas, but haven’t opened the box yet. Since I’ve topped out on COD:WAW, maybe I’ll give it a shot now.

Am I better off playing the Single Player campaign first?

Labtrash, I’d say so. Play by yourself or a few friends. I think it’s more fun doing campaign with friends. I wouldn’t jump into vs right away until you get a feel for the controls; there are a lot of good vs players out there who are tougher than anything the computer can toss at ya.

You’re kind, but I can’t hold a candle to SenorBeef or Gambit. They are probably the best L4D players on the dope. If I’m plugged to the Matrix, then they are Neo.

It really irks me when people forget to take the medikit. That medikit might be all that stands between winning and losing. The game should just automatically give the medikit between rounds.

I’d say absolutely yes. The single player campaign, if nothing else, teaches you the controls and the gaming mechanics, plus what the enemies sound like and how they attack. Learning what the weapons look like and how they work is a big plus, too; I went through two or three campaigns before I realized that there were two kinds of shotguns. On top of that, you’ll learn the layout of the maps and where the “crescendo events” are, which will help you deal with them when they come in multiplayer.

And you’ll learn the most valuable lesson of all: when you hear someone crying, LIGHTS OFF.

I like how lights, close gunfire, and just being next to a witch will startle her. But all the characters yelling “WIIIIIITCH!!!” doesn’t phase her. :stuck_out_tongue:

Either way, it’s all good. Shoot me an invite and I’ll hope over and play with ya.

heh. I was running through Dead Air solo the other night, and you know that part of the level where you lower the crane so everyone can climb the ladder to the next section? Lowered the crane, fought off the zombie wave, and got ready to climb the ladder. And guess who’s having a good cry right at the top of the ladder, sitting on top of the box that had just been swingin’ from the crane. I mean, seriously, how the hell did she get up there anyway?

Blast her in the dome when she’s still on her knees and move on, good sir.

My sister just forgot her medkit on the last game we played. Argh! And this was right after I showed her that poster and she said “That’s not me!!!” :stuck_out_tongue: Not to mention that we had a Bill-bot who loved to swipe all of the medkits before we had a chance to grab him then run out or heal us at the worst possible times ever.

raaaaaaaaaggggeeeeeee

The AI is a mixed blessing. They act like idiots sometimes, but then have some kind of zombie clarivoyance as well. They’re not good enough to roll with two or three of them on Expert, though.

Lately I’ve been having lots and lots of L4D zombie dreams, but the funny thing is they’re not nightmares. I’ve actually found myself enjoying them quite a bit, when in my head I’m playing the role of Bill or Francis.

Getting knocked away from the rescue vehicle and suiciding to force a map end is such a douchebag move.

Just discovered something I may be the last person to hear about: apparently, Microsoft and the people who made that My Bloody Valentine 3D movie are giving away MS gamer points and other goodies as part of a sweepstakes. To enter, you either register or download a gamer picture (which registers you for the sweepstakes) and play a multiplayer match of Left 4 Dead between 10 AM Pacific time today (in other words, it’s already started) and 11:59 PM on January 11th (Sunday). All the information is here. I’m looking for a quick link to download the pic to get folks registered. There’s a link to register without the picture on the info page, as well, although it’s telling me “not offered in your region” for some reason (seriously? I’m in Texas, we thrive on carnage!), so I guess I’ll try downloading the pic when I get home.

Anyway, my tag is Maxwell Torque, and I’m usually only on after 10 PM Central if’n you wanna play.

edit: huh, I pushed “okay” on the “not offered in your region” page, and a screen came up thanking me for registering. So, maybe it worked. I’m still gonna try the pic, just to cover my bases.

Interesting. I may hop on in a bit and play with ya, then.
