No Zombie love? (Left 4 Dead)

Hey, we’ve go the steam SDMB thing going too!

Console whippersnappers! Why, when I was a kid and a discussion on FPS’s got started on Usenet we would have laughed at the console players and their Mario games! Laugh I tell you!

Well, I really see no reason to have three threads about the same game. We need to utilize post titles to discriminate.

Sounds good to me

Anyone else pre-loaded with steam already? I left the comp downloading this morning before heading to work.

Good to see we got that settled.

Actually, L4D is not available for PS3, only Xbox 360 and PC, so we can cut that out at least.

Because PC gaming is a small niche nowadays?

Now, now. We don’t need to get into that tussle again. We’ve got an easy solution.

I’ve never understand why people feel the need to tussle over an obviously true statement.

That’s ok. It’s well know that Justin gets migraines every time someone is having fun playing PC games. He thinks of the higher resolution, the more accurate and responsive controls and the higher quality of graphics/depth of play + the modding community and blood vessels in his frontal lobe begin to spontaneously burst.

His doctor has him on a regimen of 2nd life and Wii sports twice daily, with a touch of Halo 3 for what ails him.

They tussle for tusslin’s sake.

I don’t give a shit about higher resolution, I’d rather sit on my comfortable couch than in my uncomfortable computer chair.

More accurate and responsive controls are a joke. Have you ever tried to play a fighting game with a keyboard? It’s hell.

You already said higher quality graphics, does including it twice prove that PC gamers are obsessed with graphics over gameplay?

I’ll give you the modding community. It’d be neat to share tweaks like that for some good games.

But basically, it boils to me being an idiot because I like different types of games than you like (which of course makes you come across as an idiot). That doesn’t change the fact that console gaming is 10x more popular than PC gaming.

Halo 3 cures it, Wii Sports causes it.

I’ll still happily throw down for the keyboard-controller throwdown if it ever happens.

Well, I think Wii anything might be the cause.

Seriously Justin, why must you be so antagonistic? We know console games sell like hot cakes. The average maroon on the street is FAR more comfortable with a simple device he can plug into the TV and play. That is the story of all things. Dumb them down, and they appeal to the masses.

That being said, I can appreciate the simplicity of that, and I wouldn’t dream of playing say a fighting game on the PC. But are you so bitter that you can’t appreciate the pluses the PC brings to gaming? Anyway, we’re both on the same side really - gaming. Something a lot of people out there still look down their collective noses at as somethign only little brats do. We should be working (together) to improve the image of the raging gaming nerd, instead of reinforcing it.

Or in other words, can’t we all just get along?

I’m down for that. And actually I thought of a way. Problem is, it involves you console folk upgrading your rigs! I’ve actually tried this little experiment with a couple of friends who shun the PC and I proved my point with them.

PC is all about flexibility, and you CAN play FPS’s on it with an xbox controller if you wanted to on your TV, and form the comfort of your couch. In fact I have 2 xbox 360 wireless controllers that I use for racing games on the PC and for casual games on my HTPC.

I had my friends get acquainted with Crysis using the controllers, then we jumped in a multi-player match. And I pretty much owned. But I’m prepared to admit that that could have a lot to do with me having played the game a lot, and that it was their first time with it.

I see part of your problem here. My husband and I do our computer gaming from our respective comfy couch/chair.

Who’s being antagonistic? I was responding to SenorBeef getting mad that PC players were being pushed out, even though most of this thread has been discussion amongst Xbox 360 players and the fact that there’s already a thread for Steam matchmaking.

Second of all, even in your “why can’t we get along” speech (which I agree with, in principle), you still managed to throw in that consoles are dumbed down. This is, of course, bullshit. Games are meant to be enjoyed, so they should work as simply as possible. There’s nothing dumbed down about finding a good way to deploy a product to a willing public and then using it.

Do you hate the fact that people love automatic transmissions too? PC gamers need to learn to let go and accept that they’re not the top dog anymore and that the genres popular on PCs are not the be-all end-all barometer for what makes a good game or a good control scheme.

Yeesh. Stop this crap.

This about killing zombies, not holding old nerd grudges.

Oh man! Why did I think this was coming out tonight? I preloaded and now I realized it’s not out till the 18th. I was all psyched for some zombie slaying goodness this weekend.

Demo?

Yeah I got the demo and have been playing that. Steam offers a pre-load system with some games so you can download the game a few days before it actually comes out and be able to play at midnight the day of release without having to start the download at that time.

For some reason I was convinced that time would be tonight. Didn’t see the 18th anywhere, except I see it all over the place now :frowning:

Anyone else seen the footage of people playing the infected?

Found one here. Left 4 Dead Footage: Playable Infected in Versus Mode | Shacknews

Looks like an entirely different experience. More DM like for lack of a better word

I can see dying so quickly becoming boring might fast though.

Zerg rush, anyone?
