No Zombie love? (Left 4 Dead)

See us in game in 3 minutes instead.

I’m going to be running friend list only games. I’m not sure if you can join in mid-game by being part of the same steam group or if it’s just a friends list, but in any case feel free to send me a message in steam and/or join my game.

Oh sure, you all get to play right now. But I’ll have the last laugh tomorrow when I get a really cool manual and such. Oh yes, last laugh I say!

I wish I could play right now :frowning:

Tonight, tonight! I’ll be playing all the night! See you guys in game!

Ok so I’m at work right now and I won’t be able to play the full version until I get home. Anyone out there whose played through it a bit can give us an idea of how cool the full game is?

Only 7.5 hours until I can play :smack:

I downloaded the demo a few days ago, but I’ve been distracted since then (you do NOT want to know what I was doing last night, ugh). So, I’m thinking I’ll actually have some time to try it out this evening. I’ll have to wait, though, until the wife and child are asleep. That’ll be 10 or 11 Eastern, 9 or 10 Central (my time zone). Are there still folks willing to play on the lower difficulties with me until I get a feel for the mechanics? I’m already on the SDMB gamertag.

I’m in the SDMB Steam group, under chmccann. I will probably be playing tonight, as I’m expecting my headset today (bless Amazon’s $3.99 one-day shipping). I am definitely a novice, so I will be happy to play with anyone who wants to/is willing to play a little easier game.

I may also be on during the day today, while the baby naps, as I can use hubby’s headset while he’s at work. But there will be the possibility of me having to jump out at a moment’s notice - does the AI just take over your character in that case?

I’ll be on tonight as well and willing to play with anyone. If I don’t see you guys first, send me an invite. My Steam name is the same as my name here.

I just started playing the full version with my friends last night. I was skeptical at first, but it’s actually a whole lot of fun.
I love how you can see the floppy asses of the zombies in the hospital gowns.
We got stuck on top of the hospital as we radioed in for help. Are we supposed to survive wave of zombies and tanks (plural!) for an actual 15 minutes?! We just couldn’t do it on advanced. One time right off the bat I was snagged by a smoker and his hunter friend. We did 5 tries with various methods before calling it a night.

I’ll happily go through it with you if I’m on. Send me an invite.

You’ll have to remind me who you are on the tag; I never did make up a master list of SDMB names <–> XBL gamertags. Are you Dixon Tufar?

So, that’s two of us, LOUNE and me (tag: Maxwell Torque). Anyone else?

My steam ID is the same as my user name here. I can’t friend anyone right now since I’m at work but if anyone wants to friend me they are more than welcome! I’m already in the sdmb group on steam. I definitely plan on playing tonight and seeing what the full game is all about.

I am!

Ok you guys convinced me to buy this game.

AAAARGH! I feel like a zombie as I wait for steam to decrypt my game files. Common!

Yeah, if you hit escape there’s a “take a break” option which immediately replaces you with the AI and sends you into observer mode, then you can jump right back in when you get back. It’ll also automatically do this if you haven’t moved at all for a minute or so.

First impressions of versus mode last night are that it’s the greatest thing ever to happen to humanity. Really, really satisfying barfing on an entire team as a boomer. And the way it rotates back and forth - one team tries to get as far as they can, then they switch roles and become the zombies and try to keep the other team from getting as far - is excellent.

Ohhhh nice! I thought the zombie mode was just about trying to stop the survivors, I didn’t imagine that it was a taking turns thing, kind of like the old assault modes on unreal tournament I guess?

HA! Someone does remember the existance of assault mode on UT!

Yes, that’s exactly what it’s like.

Speaking of which, I don’t know why that game mode dropped off the face of the earth. It’s the most fun way to play team/objective based gameplay. What really annoys me is that it’s perfect for certain map types in TF2, but in TF2 the attacking team always wins, and they rate a win in 5 minutes and 10 minutes equally, so the result is that no one ever really wins in those games in TF2. Huge turnoff for me in the game.

Edit: Except in L4D, the time of completion isn’t the determining factor. If neither team completes, it calculates a percentage of the way they made it through the map as a way to score them. If both teams complete, the number of survivors and their remaining health determine the score. There’s a built-in motivator to keep the pace up since the zombie team operates on respawn timers and the longer you take the more zombie bosses you’ll have to face.

We’ve got an SDMB versus game going if anyone wants to join. We’ve had 4-5 SDMBers going and filled the rest out with pug players. Either join my game via the SDMB community group or send me a message for an invite.

Ok holy crap. I gotta say that this game is way more amazing than it seemed in the demo, and I was already expecting it to be pretty sweet. Like Senor been said the vs. mode really adds a whole new dimension to the game, and really makes for some great teamwork.

I was playing on there with senor beef and a couple of other SDMBers against the pub players. It took me a while to get the hang of playing as the infected, but once you get it down it’s arguably more fun than playing as the survivors. More people need to get with the program and buy this game :stuck_out_tongue:
