Try the demo and see for yourself
No you can’t the demo’s still locked. Auto, you might be better off telling us what your specs are. I would assume it can unless they’ve never released new drivers for your video card (very common problem on some laptop cards). But hell, it’s still the Source engine.
Screenshots!
SenorBeef, Mastar, Mutton, and I take out the survivors with a well-timed quadruple attack!
Here, the survivors were reloading and regrouping after our latest attack a little too close to the gas station. I spawned as hunter, leaped over them and stood directly in front of a gas pump. Some hasty fire killed me and knocked down the entire team at once. GG!
I’ll try to get used to mashing my screenshot button.
Oh, hey, I didn’t realize who you were - you played under a name I hadn’t seen before.
Yeah, I’m having a blast playing Versus games. We should get an SDMB versus game going.
How about we try tonight? I’ll open a lobby at 8pm eastern/5pm pacific. If you launch your game and select “play versus, play with friends” it should show you my lobby if you’re part of the SDMB group. All are welcome, we can hold up to 8 players.
If you’re not used to versus don’t be intimidated, it’s very quick to learn and a lot of fun.
You boys are talking Steam yeah?
I installed it on Steam but my laptop(it’s a work corpoate model so has a crap card in it) barely handles it. I’m a 360 boy when it comes to this game.
Yeah, sorry - I meant on steam.
You guys on the xbox can set your own thing up. Are there a lot of L4D xbox players? I’ve only looked a few times but I didn’t see anyone playing L4D when I was on my xbox. I’ve seen about 12 different people playing it on our steam group.
I’ve seen a few, even sent one a shout out but they went off line soon after.
One night there was three playing but a friend who doesn’t have L4D got me to play Halo instead. I loves me some halo so it wasn’t too much of a hardship
I’ll keep a look out though. My and micilin play most nights for a few hours but the time diff makes it a bit of a pain to hook up with you guys on the other side of the pond.
I’m suprised people love the shotgun over the M16. I always take the m16 I think its superior.
- With the shotgun when you are trying to help teammates out swarmed teamates the spread will tag your teamate a lot too.
- The reload sucks on the shotgun. I’m hard on the trigger so when we get horded I end up shooting all my shells off quick and then going to a melee/reload / shoot one shot pattern. With the m16 when when get horded you shoot until out of ammo/melee/reload and then have 50 more shots. The zombie die easily with it so it doesn’t take more then a couple shots in nonhorde situations. The downside of the M16 is you have to be consious of your ammo, and it takes longer to kill a tank.
I’m starting to come to that opinion as well for the exact same reasons. I’m starting to just stay with dual-pistols in non-horde/special zombie/finale situations to combat the ammo problem which I’ve had as well.
I will try to be on Steam again tonight around 8pm e.s.t. I’ve had a blast playing with all of the SDMBers, and I agree that versus is really the way to go!
I think the auto shotgun is substantially superior which is unfortunate because I prefer using rifles. It absolutely demolishes rushes, it’s almost always a one shot kill, it reloads way too quickly (the best way to nerf the gun I think is to make it so you’re not speedy gonzalez while reloading it), you can spam reload/melee at the same time and get it reloaded really fast while protecting yourself, and I’m always running out of ammo with the M16 and I don’t think I ever have with shotguns.
Most of the situations where you need massive firepower are when they’re close, where the shotgun does well. The M16 is better at shooting them at range, but most of the time if you have that luxury you can pull out your pistol and get them that way.
It’s usually good to have at least one person in the group with a rifle to get smokers at long range and such.
Thanks for the invite last night, yojimbo, but I think I’m on to other games already, at least for a while. Gives me some time to forget the levels.
The autoshotgun is by far an unbalanced weapon. On expert mode you can shoot at a tank for minutes on end with the other weapons without taking him down. Three full clips of the autoshotgun though and he’s toast.
Reminder: I’ll be hosting a l4d versus game for our SDMB Steam community at 8pm eastern tonight. I’ll open the lobby in about an hour. Everyone is welcome.
Not sure how many people are around, but I opened the lobby. To join simply launch the game, select play versus, play with friends, and it should show my lobby.
We probably won’t be launching for another 10 or 20 minutes, but feel free to log in and reserve a spot.
If anyone shows up late, if there’s a slot open you can join us in mid-game.
Well that was pretty awesome. We had 6-7 SDMBers in a versus game for three full campaigns. We had some really good, close matches. I hope to do that more in the future.
The teams need to be more balanced. It’s no fun getting totally creamed.
How many SDMB Xbox users are playing this game? I’m tempted to buy it, but since the multiplayer is where all the fun is (at least the reviews make it seem so), I don’t want to pick it up unless I’m going to have some people to play with.
I thought we actually did a pretty good job of making sure the teams were balanced. When we started off they were way stacked, but after the first mission we called a vote back to the lobby to fix it. It seemed fine to me after that.
Which campaign do you mean? The first one we restarted to change the teams, the third one saw one team lose the first 2 matches decisively but they actually rallied to win the overall campaign.
I am trying to balance things since it’s no fun for either side for things to be unbalanced. Sometimes it’s hard since I only know how good a few of you are and people don’t want to recall the game to the lobby unless it’s decisively unbalanced.
We had a few close matches that didn’t look close on the scoreboard - ie one team dies about 90% of the way through only scoring around 140 points, and then the other team, limping, barely alive, crosses the finish line and scores 900.
