Nobel Peace Prize Announced; It Doesn't Go to Trump

I saw a picture of this with the following caption: Being given a second-hand Nobel Peace Prize is so much more embarrassing than not getting a Nobel Peace Prize.

(Facebook link for the image with the text, in case you want to save it.)

Yep. Remains to be seen if they’ll get that chance or POTUS will insist HE decides the future of Venezuela for the rest of his life, but right now she knows pride don’t pay no bills (literally or figuratively) and would only keep a target on her.

@Velocity all he is thinking is “they didn’t want me to have it but now I do; even SHE recognizes it should have been ME”.

I agree that Machado is the rightful leader of Venezuela, but I don’t think she realized what a gamble it would be to hand over the medal.

No doubt he’s going to have it taken out and hung on a ribbon so he can wear it.

The former is a bit of an issue. Being installed by foreign gunpoint is not exactly a great look. If it led to fair and open elections where the people of Venezuela could actually voice their current opinion? Maybe.

But nobody currently in power in Venezuela and certainly not the powers that be in the US seems to want that, either.

The latter? It’s not a gamble at all. Is the assumption that there is some kind of perfect solution where there is peace and justice for all? No such thing.

What has she actually given up? Nothing. Trump is not the sort to actually comprehend how little he got out of it and what sort of mockery it opened him to.

If she gets anything out of it, it’s better than what she would have gotten otherwise. And all for the price of a small chunk of metal.

A Medal for Peace–stolen at gunpoint.

How indicative of our dirty era.

Si vis pacem fac bellum

That would be Edmundo González. Machado was not a candidate in the 2024 elections.

And that he took it. That guy has zero self-awareness.

I’m going to buy these to put in my sports memorabilia room. Visitors will be in awe of my athletic prowess!

I’m surprised nobody has mentioned trump’s idol and mentor, who did something similar:

That was mentioned upthread.

It’s like someone off camera is coaching him on how to show the world a real human smile.

What an absolute buffoon. Why on earth would someone want a Nobel prize that they themselves didn’t win?? That just makes NO sense.

advocating for himself to get the award was tacky enough but to feel any form of “honour” for taking someone else’s is simply a mindset I can’t understand.

Here’s my own effort

No, it makes perfect sense, from the perspective of a 5-year-old.

Even if someone feels they deserve an award like this, it’s far better to keep your mouth shut and let others advocate on your behalf. But Trump is incapable of that subtlety or really any subtlety for that matter. He’s never heard the word understated.

To piss off those of us who didn’t think he should get it.

Does anyone who didn’t think he should get a Nobel Peace Prize care about who possessed the metal disc?
