noise from unwrapping candy

I vaguely recall having read about research into noise generated when unwrapping candy. Problem posed by the study was whether a “slow” process of unwrapping the candy would reduce the noise (and thus draw less attention to the glutton). Findings indicated that wrapper emits same decibel level at all levels of speed. Implication of findings: an attempt to mask the sound by unwrapping slowly only prolongs the broadcast.

I thought I saw this in Uncle Cecil’s archives – but several searches have yielded butkis.

Anyone out there know of this critical piece of research.
