Nomenus Quarterly is a magazine.
A magazine with a strange publishing philosophy. They only print ten copies of each issue.
But how, you’re no doubt asking, do they stay in business by selling ten issues?
That’s easy. The magazine has a cover price of $6500.
Now you’re probably curious. You’re wondering what a $6500 magazine is like. But you’re not going to spend that kind of money.
No problem. You can see it for free at their website.
I have to admit I’m having a hard time seeing how their business model is going to work.
It doesn’t really seem any stranger than a series of limited-edition prints.
I have to think that the only thing Nomenus can offer is exclusivity. The idea is that sure you pay an outrageous sum of money but at least you’re getting content that only nine other people can read - you’re part of an elite.
But then they put that content up on a free website. So any bum with online access can read it.
Okay, I get the point. The reality is that Nomenus isn’t really a magazine. It’s a website that theoretically sells $6500 print copies as a publicity stunt. They don’t appear to have open advertising on the website so I assume they make their money from product placement.
Well, I’m disappointed. I thought sure in the print copy there was going to be menus in there. Cancel THAT subscription!
I’m thinking about the subscription myself. I’m tired of paying $26,000 dollars every year at the newsstand. Plus if I subscribed, I’d get the free swimsuit calendar.
I guess this is one we won’t see some kid selling door-to-door.
“Hello, sir, I’m selling this magazine to put myself through college.”
“All I have to do is sell one.”
