I got up early today to go to church, then remembered – I’m not a Christian. But I would have liked to know this Jesus fellow. By most accounts, he seemed to be a gentleman.
secular humanist.
and btw, this poll seems a horrible way to sample your audience. It’s as if Gallop, to save costs, posted an ad asking people to phone in their presidential preference, and used that as a sampling of America.
For all we know, more Christians stick in Great Debates, or believe in being modest about their faith, or just don’t care enough to click on the thread polling Christians.
Or perhaps, due to that two thread problem, their thread through bad luck sank a bit further down, resulting in more people missing it.
P’raps I should put a little survey on one of my pages with two buttons, Christian and Not. Then that thread could just kep getting bumped up. Might help a bit.
I’m not christian
[sub]Not that there’s anything wrong with that[/sub]
Agreed. This is called a SLOP in the polling industry. A SLOP is a Self-selected Listener Opinion Poll. No serious polling organization uses them as they are statistically useless.
That being said, I don’t think the OP was looking for a scientific statistical analysis, but a vauge idea of the number of non-Christians on the board.
Zev Steinhardt
Buddhist here.
Walk with peace my friends.
Wow, Kimstu! I didn’t know other Jewish-Presbyterians with Quaker religious exposure actually existed! And to think, I felt so all alone. [My mother was Jewish, I was raised Presbyterian and went to a Quaker college and attended numerous unprogrammed meetings.]
I am a theist, wondering if I should head back to Judaism or off to UU. Currently completely conflicted.
Deist non-Christian.
Hey, you can appreciate Jesus and recognize his place in history and our daily lives plus be a non-Christian. Check out Islam or Bahai faiths to round out your quest.
atheist here-
parents were members of methodist church, catholic high school…
apparently, none of it took.
I’ve got nothing against Jesus; it’s the folks who claim to be following in his name that scare me…
And that’s on the ** good ** days.
So just put me down as a big question mark.
It is not a very scientific survey, true, but it was suggested by the Mod in charge of this forum, which is where we are supposed to do polling. Since it was suggested by a 3rd party, who if anything is biased in the “other sides” favor, you would think they would accept it. I cannot think of a more scientific way to do it- within the board rules.
It seems to show that Christians possess a plurality, but not a majority here- running about 40%.
Atheist
Hmm let’s see… Mom is ex-Catholic, now follows Native American/Old Celtic/Tibetan beliefs; Dad is non-practicing 7th Day Adventist; fiancee is Reformed Jewish; cat is Zen (that’s her name), so that makes me… uh… well I guess you might call me a multicultural pagan.
Feel free to link to it in all the related threads…
Well done, Opal!
[nitpick]'Cept ya spelled “atheist” wrong.[/nitpick]
There are Jews in the world.
There are Buddhists.
There are Hindus, and Mormons, and then… there are those that follow Mohammed but… I’ve never been one of them.
Lump me in with the rest of the godless atheists.
Pete
Long time RGMWer and all your base are belong to us!!
I’m getting in on this a bit late, but I am Jewish by birth and agnostic by belief (or lack thereof).
Still-in-the-closet atheist.
Add another one to the list.
I follow the teachings of Buddha.
Devout atheist. As for religion, I am a Scientist (of the non-Christian variety).
