non-detergent oils

Can anyone tell me some non-detergent oils besides 3 in 1 oil?

Most of your normal lubricating oils will probably be “non-detergent”, since the detergent part really only comes into play inside internal combustion engines.

So just about any gun oil, general purpose oil, sewing machine oil, etc… will be non-detergent.

Oh, if you’re talking about non-detergent engine oil, go to a convenience store or dollar store and you should be able to find SA or SB rated oil that’s non-detergent.

What is the application for the oil?

3-in-1 is vegetable oil. It’s certainly not any good for an internal combustion engine. I’d also not use it on a bicycle chain as the first time the chain gets wet, the oil will be gone.

Most auto stores will stock SAE 30W non-detergent oil for use in lawn-mowers and such. I don’t think I have seen multi-weight non-detergent oil.

3-in-1 oil is just light machine oil- go look at the MSDS. But you’re right, it’s probably not good for any internal combustion engine except maybe to oil some external part.

Thanks for the correction. I see that it uses some Citronella oil, but certainly not vegetable based. Seems that I’ve been mistaken for a long time!
