Non "pod" term for Podcast?

I remember recently reading a term for podcasts which didn’t include “pod”, it was ___cast, and for some reason i think Al Gore preferred the term as it didn’t imply it was specifcally for an iPod.

Does anyone know what im talking about?

Webcast? That was actually the pre-Podcast term I believe, but I think it also connotated more video than audio.

Leo Laporte calls his “netcasts.”

I prefer webcast as the term has been used since the late 80s and the concept was fielded around 93-94.

The software that came with my Samsung calls them “Datacasts”. (And annoyingly refuses to download m4p files). So yeah; datacast.

Two I’ve seen used for video are Vidcast and Vodcast.

I’ve always wondered why the word podcast at all. It’s just a recording of a radio show, sometimes not intended for radio (or TV) at all.

I have some recordings of old 1940’s radio shows. They weren’t podcasts then, are they podcasts now?
