Non-sports movies that make guys weepy

Those scenes get me too but the scene that probably gets to me the most is when Tom Hanks’ character has to isolate himself from his men to weep after the death of the medic…that shaking hand thing he does and the fact that it seems he’s weeping for not just one event or for himself but for everything that has happened before and what trials lay ahead is pretty moving. And the fact that he doesn’t want his men to see him crying.

The Shawshank Redemption for me. . . .see it 10+ times and I ALWAYS cry during the "I hope. . . " soliloquy at the end. Morgan Freeman rules.

Seconded, such a sad film. It’s flawless portrait of two children’s innocence and naivety meeting cold reality is heartbreaking- you’d have to be a sociopath not to well-up watching it.

The end of the last episode of Band of Brothers.

Maybe I should have caught on sooner, but it blew me away when the revealed that the men they had been showing interviews with during the series were the actual men portrayed.

Crap, my throat’s getting a little tight just thinking about it.

I got weepy seeing the Les Mis film, too.

Ol’ Yeller.

Cinderellaman, boxing is a sport but its everything else in that movie that’s heart wrenching.

One of the final scenes in LOTR: ROTK, when Aragorn says to the hobbits, “My friends, you bow to no one.”

This is one of the best anime movies for non-anime fans. Watch it. Go hug your little sister. Watch it with her.

Up, of all things, when the wife’s chair gets tossed.

Sophie’s Choice
The Trojan Women

After reading this thread and others like it, I believe if you asked what movies make gals weepy you would get pretty much the same list. (Well, except for Beaches – no self-respecting guy would watch that.)

I don’t care if you’re man, woman or humanoid, you’re going to break down watching Ponette.

For me, the movies not named Field of Dreams (which isn’t so much a sports movie, actually) and not yet named that get me good:
Ghost
Rain Man
Untamed Heart
I’m sure I will come back with others.

And even though it’s been mentioned, good God, did Toy Story 3 do a number on me.

Years ago I had a student in Japan tell me she hated this movie, because it was compulsory viewing at her school and, after having been made to watch it several times, she just found it too depressing.

It doesn’t merely touch your heart, it rips it right out of your chest like the evil priest in Temple of Doom.

I’ll also add my voice to those recommending Up.
I think it’s the only other animated film that’s made me cry.
Most moving opening sequence of any movie I’ve seen.

Another vote for UP, and the two scenes you’re referring to. …snif. :frowning:

50+ posts and nobody has mentioned Good Will Hunting? Are you all made of stone?

Hey, back off, man; it’s not my fault; it’s not my fault; it’s not my fault; it’s not my fault; it’s not my fault.

Funny, well not funny ha ha, I just watched Grave of the Fireflies and I didn’t cry. It was very sad and I choked up when he had to “set the fire” on the hill but the opening scene softens the entire movie.
The Red Balloon makes me cry. Empire of the Sun too.

I got a little choked up during 1999’s The Mummy…“Here I come, laddies!”

People haven’t mentioned Old Yeller yet?

Granted, every woman I know who’s seen that movie also breaks into tears as well.

In all seriousness, the world would be much better off if men admitted they cried and women admitted they masturbated.

My husband gave that one a “maybe.” I’m pretty sure he meant, “Yeah, I bawled like a baby at that like everyone else in the world.”

I’m pretty sure the OP didn’t mean crying from laughing.
