Noose trap

No, not a Møøse trap; a noose trap.

We’ve all seen it in cartoons and TV shows. A noose lies on the ground, with the other end tied to a tree that is bent over to function as a spring. When someone steps in the middle of it, the tree pulls the noose, which tightens on the person’s leg(s) and pulls him into the air to hang upside-down. Hilarity ensues.

In real life, how is this type of trap triggered?

Some sort of trip-line or lever. Generally you need a lever linkage (often two or more stages) to reduce the force on the catch, which allows triggering with very little force.

Probably harder than the trigger itself Is anchoring the trigger mechanism. Going around a tree root is probably the best option.
