Story here. Passed over Okinawa. Not a good sign that they defied even their ally China on this. And it goes to show the military will do what they damned well please regardless of probably even what that chubby little king they’ve got thinks of it.
BBC was interviewing ex-State Department East Asian specialist Christopher Hill in Denver, Colorado, and he doesn’t think it has anything to do with the upcoming South Korean elections. He said after the last launch fizzled out, it was inevitable that they would try again.
hey ,i am a chinese!!!

China says they’ll control north korea but I think the world knows when the collapse happens it will be a gigantic mess. About 23 million people who have been malnourished and psychologically tortured on various levels will be expected to join the international community and form a functioning society. I read if there was reunification it would cost South Korea trillions of dollars to help North Korea get on its feet. Not to mention all the residual authoritarian fawning and distrust of neighbors that is going to exist because people have been raised under such a mind control cult.
I get the impression China wants NK to open itself up economically like China has, but NK won’t because they know opening up to the world will educate the people enough about the outside world to destabalize the regime.
What do you think will happen when China’s GDP overtakes the US in about 5-10 years?
Apparently, the Axis of Evil buddy, Iran, provided assistance to ensure the success of the launch.
Naturally, America was too amazing a nation to need the help of any outsiders.*
On a more serious note, the North Koreans aren’t doing too bad here. Teething pains were a big part of our rocketry in the 50’s and early 60’s…one only needs to remember our great success with launching Vanguard TV3 which was broadcast to the world.
Granted, at least the USA we’ll show the good with the bad; whereas the PRC and DPRK…mmm…not so much.
Agreed with user hostile, while its is pretty amusing to mock North Korea they have managed to put a satellite in orbit and they have nuclear warheads. Its only a matter of refining their technology and techniques before they have usable ICBM’s.
Its all fun and games until somebody loses a major population centre!
