Just to clarify, Nunavut is a federal territory created by splitting off the eastern part of the Northwest Territories. It has the same status as the (now smaller) Northwest Territories and the Yukon Territory, and is partially self-governing in that the federal government chooses to mostly delegate its powers in the territories to locally elected legislative councils, but they don’t have the constututionally provided full powers and authority of the provinces.
