Northern Hemisphere Dopers: At what temperature is your thermostat set?

between 66-68. The sun here, when we get it, warms up the kitchen nicely in the AM and the living room good in the afternoon.

When we’re home and awake - 70. During the day, the cats live with it at 64, then at night when we sleep it’s down to 64 again.

We have a programmable thermostat at home. I think this year we might have to dig out the directions.

We had a cockatiel and a parakeet last winter, and they can’t stand much lower than 70 degree temps, so we kept it at 68 all day. Now that they’re gone, the dog and cat might have to deal with a cooler house while we’re gone.

BTW, we may get our first snow here in Indy this week!

64 in the daytime, 60 at night. Weekends, if I’m home and if I feel chilled, 68.

I’ve got the stat set at 68 for an hour when we’re waking up, then down to 55 during the day. At 6:00, it’s up to 67 (68’s just a tad too warm) until bedtime at 11:00 and then it’s back down to 55.

At home, 55 or so, maybe 58 or 60 for a bit if someone complains enough. We’re big on sweaters and/or blankets.

Here in my place at school, in the 68 range. My housemates come from the wimpier climes, and seem to feel that you should be able to walk around the house in a T-shirt and shorts at all times of the year :stuck_out_tongue:

Digital Theromostat M-F: 65 degrees overnight, 68 degrees from 7am until 9am, back down to 65 during the day, and 68 from 5pm until 11pm.

Weekends: 65 overnight, 68 during the day.

Digtal programmable spaceheater in the den: Set to 70 degrees.

I find what works for me is having my programmable thermostat set for 62 all the time, but on a regular cycle (i.e. 62 during the day, then 62 at bedtime). Then, when I am home, and notice that it’s cold, I can bump it up to 68/69 and know that the thermostat will automagically reset it back to 62 later without me having to remember.

I can’t stress enough how much that saves on heating bills. Go get a programmable thermostat now if you don’t have one. Better yet, call your electric or gas utility and ask if they’ll give you one for free or discounted – there are a lot of programs to do so.

I should print this thread out and show it to my mom and sister, who think that my house is unbelievably frigid at 64 - 66F. We never set the heat as high as 70F - we’d both languish in the sweltering heat at that level. And why, yes, summer IS miserable for me - thank you for asking.

(I love our programmable thermostat, too - I never have to think about setting it up and down and up and down and up and down…)

66 during the day, and 58 at night.

It’s 77 outside but only about 62 in the house. The thermostat is set to keep the furnace off. I’m currently in a battle of wills with my house and I am not about to lose. That’s why I’ve got slippers on, my polar fleece sweatshirt, sleep in sweats, and drink more tea and coffee. Oh, and I use my afghan and other covers at times. I got up this morning and it was 55. I just ain’t got the money to spend on lots of heating.

Winter it’s at 67 when we’re home/active, 60 for away/asleep. I always feel sorry for the budgies when we leave for work. But, they don’t snowblow or scrape cars.

That said, it’s 70F pretty much year around as the heat from neighboring apartments keeps mine pretty damned toasty. I tested this by cranking the thermostat down to 55 the first winter I lived in my building, and I was still extremely toasty. In the summertime we don’t have central AC. (Apparently Seattleites don’t believe in central AC, whodathunk?)

71 F

In six months we’ll do the cooling thread and see who’s smiling then.

What’s a thermostat?

Around 20c, which is 68F.

68-69 ish when we’re here. Lower when we’re not. I’d turn it lower at night, but then my husband complains that I’m freezing him out of bed.

If I had my druthers, I’d have it down to 60 at night. I love being under a big pile of blankets.

I’m cheap, but also have the benefit of having an entire house to myself and a horrible fast metabolism (great for keeping me warm; bad for the food bills). My thermostat is set at 63 degrees in the evening and when I wake up in the morning, otherwise it goes back down to 58 degrees. My friends think I’m crazy, but I’m still usually lounging around in shorts and a t-shirt.

72 degrees, day and night. I’m amazed at how cold some people here live. Our city has an ordinance that landlords of rental properties that do not have individual thermostats must keep a minimum temperature of 67 degrees.
