Northern Hemisphere Dopers: At what temperature is your thermostat set?

Mine right now is at 63 when I’m up. I live alone, so I can put up with it. Plus I’m really only up from about 4 until 9pm, then go to bed and read in the warmth of my bed. I get up and am out the door in 4 minutes (shower at the gym).

Nighttime it’s at 57. The heat has come on a few times at that temp, and will this week for sure.

I recently bought some new sheets and a blanket and they are really warm. The sheets are fleece sheets, amazingly warm. The blanket is a vellulux I think. With both of them on I haven’t needed to even get out my comforter yet. I highly suggest the fleece sheets for cold weather locales. I got them at Kohl’s, if you have one of those.

I have a digital timer thermostat; it is set as follows:
Weekdays:
6 to 8:30AM - 18C (64.5F)
8:30AM to 4PM - 15C (59F)
4PM to 7PM - 18C (64.5F)
7PM to 10PM 17C (62.5F)
10PM to 6AM 10C (50F - essentially OFF)

At weekends, the temperature in the middle of the day is kept a little higher, but we have a well-insulated house, so it’s actually quite stable during the day, despite the different settings. I cannot sleep in a hot room at all, so the heating never comes on at night (we’d probably reset the stat below 10 if it was likely to come on at all).

Haven’t had the heat on yet. Sky lights and a well insulated home help here.
But I believe the thermostat is set at around 68 during the day and 65 at night.
I think having three little rug rats running around all day helps keep the house warmer than it otherwise would be. They’re each like a little portable furnace, I tell ya.

Last year I think the heat finally came on around Nov 15. It may get down to 18 degrees on Wednesday night but we’re trying to see how long we can go without turning the furnace on.

We’ve had the furnace coming on regularly for three months now (and the gas bills to prove it). Okay, that’s not really true - the furnace is never shut off in Calgary, because of the chance of getting a cold night year round.

My thermostat is set to about 65F, but the temperature in here has yet to drop below 68 or so. The heat (gas) is included in my rent and I haven’t even paid attention to it… one of these days maybe I should turn up the temperature just to assure myself that it works. We’ll see what happens when it gets to be TWELVE FREAKIN’ DEGREES outside tomorrow night.

It’s set on 73 degrees, but it’s colder than that in the main rooms. I still wear sweaters – sometimes two – and cover myself with a shearing lined blanket and a Persian cat when I watch TV. I’m still rarely warm in the winter.

And yes, I have a union suit I can resort to.

Thank goodness for TVA electrical rates.

Jesus! Why?

We keep it around 64 or so at night. I’ve recently started working at home full time, and my office is in the field stone room (also has a picture window and a sash window and a fireplace). So it feels much colder (I’m a Chilly Willy anyway). I wear two sweaters and sometimes cover up with a blanket while I work. Sigh…and it’s only November! :frowning:

We just bought an energy-efficient furnace, which we hope will help with the bills. For now, I’m keeping it at 70 during the day. We’re also looking at an under-the-desk space heater so I can knock it down a couple degrees if that works.

It was 80 degrees here last week. We turned on the AC to cool down the house.

It’s now 21 with a windchill of 17 (ahh, the joys of living in the midwest… it’ll be 60 sometime this week). We’ve not turned on the heat yet, but we bought a space heater that we tote with us from room to room. It works nicely to keep the chill off.

Texas is fairly large. It was 20 here this morning, and the forecast low is 16 for tonight.

I like 60 at night, 65 or so during the evening. I bump it up to 70 when I get ready to shower. My electricity bill is a lot easier to manage than my gas bill, so I spend a lot of time in the back bedroom workshop that stays warmer with all the lights in there.

Haven’t used the heat here in Georgia yet. Felt almost like we needed to use the air conditioning last night. Very warm and muggy.
