Good ones, Bosda. I was around for the first one, but I must have been focused on something else at the time. The other was way before my time. Looks like much of the “good stuff” was already old by the time I was a participant here.
YES YES YES. FINALL:Y, I have the Mockingbidr thread. Kudos to Zelda and HardlySanguine.
I started the first Terry Schiavo thread. It would be over a year before this story was picked up as a “national” story.
I’ve let a day go by before responding to this, mainly because I never got caught up in the debates stemming from her case and therefore don’t have much to add. But I should think that a year’s worth of delay must be hard for you to accept.
Do you recall what it was about her story that caught your interest so much?
Oh, sure. Remember at the time, it was not getting a lot of national attention, and she had already spent over a decade in that condition, so I didn’t have a lot of info, but the quick news blurb I caught around the time I posted it. . .
Michael wanted to have the feeding tube pulled, and let her go that way. He also wanted to move on, as he pretty much had already done. Her poor deluded parents, however, wanted to keep the tube, and they would be willing to take care of what was left of her.
It seems that a lot of legal wrangling might have been avoided if he had just done that. Everybody wins. He moves on, and her parents think they’re doing good by “taking care of their daughter.”
That’s how I reacted once it got to be that day’s Lindsay Lohan/Paris Hilton/Glenn Beck gossip. Just the other day I had the occasion to use an expression I picked up somewhere along the way: “Way too much shuffling of the dishes for the victuals involved.”
That work for you in this case?
