Nostalgia for old threads?

I actually went hunting for one of the items on this list by way of a vanity search on my username
and noticed quite a few oldies that might deserve a revival or a new thread to continue the topic.

These all came from the earliest pages of the 30 I get in such a search.

If you have similar oldies from your own contributions that are worth a second look,
please post some link to them.

==========================

I would especially recommend a second look at the second item on the list:
Edward Bulwer Lytton’s ‘The Lady of Lyons’

It’s a bit of an inside joke, but it warms my heart.

Just to show the potential value to such looking back into the past, here’s an astounding coincidence:

Without boring you with how I got there, links within this thread’s links led me to the thread:

They’re back! - the door-to-door salesmen from hell where we find this post by Master Wang-Ka on 01-08-2003, 11:33 PM

Enjoy it again – or for the first time.

Now, for the coincidence! Yesterday there was Magazine salesman charged with sexual battery in the local news.

See how valuable?

There was a really hysterical thead where someone asked for help with a report on To Kill a Mockingbird and we jut torched that book. I don’t have it bookmarked and I haven’t been able to find it.

It was pure insanity.

I see that your search for that thread has been met with blind alleys more than once. I tried a keyword search on “mockingbird dill” and have only found the request to locate the old thread, not the thread itself.

Is there anything else in the way of date of the thread, other keywords, other people who posted in it?

My curiosity is at a high level now!

I knoqw it made Threadspotting, but I cannot find it.

Can anyone help?

As for coincidences, the oldest thread in my lookback window is:

Check your PM’s. I found something in the Archives. That it? They’re pretty time-consuming to search and I located a hit to the “find on this page” for “mockingbird” after maybe 30 tries!

Probably the same one Zeldar found - I’m assuming this is it? Pretty funny.

That’s the one. Does anybody know the drop dead date for stuff only being available as a archive?

While we’re feeling nostalgic for old threads, would any of you happen to have links to threads from Sept. 11, 2001? I’m doing a project and would like to have a copy of them.

No help, just an echo. I was going to point out how this amazing thread followed so closely on the horrors of 9/11. I will do a little archive poking though, and post whatever I can locate in this thread. Would a PM to that effect be adequate for your purposes?

Help me, HardlySanguine, didn’t this one come in the first dozen or so numbers in the archive? I had started in the middle numbers and worked a few of them before I suspected the earlier numbers were more likely. Sure enough it was early on (low numbers). So Oct/01 oughtn’t be too far from Sep/01, right?

If this helps, the actual URL for this Mockingbird oldie is

Maybe try 90000 as a first stab and adjust based on results?

I’ll be trying that sort of thing in case somebody finds a 9/11 post sooner.

I should think an entire thread (new one, of course) pointing to those oldies would be valuable for all.

2 planes are being reported as hitting the individual World Trade towers in NYC this morning.

Now THEY are 2 pissed off tall buildings…

I highly suspect that the first post alluding to the events of the day may be in a thread with an earlier start date. Finding The First Post of the tragedy my come more slowly.

I’ll be looking…

So as to attract more research help from other Dopers, I’m going to start a new thread on the topic “Lest We Forget” and point to this thread as the impetus for the theme.

We ought to get some closure on this before the day is out. “This” being the search for 9/11/2001 commentary by Dopers.

On a substantially lighter note, while searching for that first 9/11 post, I ran across this which some of you may see the humor in:
