Nostalgia: Then & Now

I’ve just gotten an Atari 2600 with games at a garage sale and I was pretty excited to relive my childhood. Unfortunately after about a couple of hours, I got pretty bored at the crappy graphics and simple execution. Thus, I no longer harbor strong feelings towards the Atari system. It just didn’t age well.

However a few months ago I’ve picked up an old classic board game called Talisman and surprisingly I’ve been having a lot of fun with it. A friend of mine and I just completed a long six hour game where my Priest kicked the ass of his Prophetess. I’m actively scouring for the expansion sets as we speak.

So I was wondering, has anyone been overly nostalgic for something they used to go batshit over and then finding out it just wasn’t as good as it used to be? Discuss.

I was an early adapter. I got Pong in December 1975.

I tried to play it again a while back. The thrill was gone.

Sometimes you can’t go back again.

I suspect Qadgop’s right. Many years ago, a friend and I spent many a Saturday afternoon in hours-long conquests of the Universe playing a game called Galaxy on his Commodore. While I’ve often wondered if some form of that game migrated to GUI world, I’ve also had the thought that it wouldn’t rev the engine as it did. Or, it would make me more aware of the absence of that friendship.
