Something’s screwed up, and I somehow have not been charged for my membership.
I joined in March, but still have no charge on my CC. There must be some sort of glitch somewhere, unless my payment did not go through and then someone “sponsored” me without saying. I’d like to thank them if they did.
So, um, do you guys, like, want your money and stuff? Or do I have anonymous benefactor out there?
Y’know those Dopers you see around who have “SDSAB” as their titles? The Powers That Be would have you believe those letters stand for “Straight Dope Science Advisory Board”. Not so! They really stand for “Steal Dopers Subscription (fees) After Bedtime”, meaning that after you signed up, one night as you slept, the crack team of the SDSAB snuck into your house, and pilfered enough jewelry, silverware, minor electronics, etc. to sell off and pay your membership fee.
You must not tell anyone I revealed this information, or they will turn into the “Sleeping Dopers Suffocate After Bedtime” team. Yep, they’ll come smother you with one of your pillows.
A couple of small questions, just to get them out of the way:
Are you sure you used the CC that you thought you did? Is there any chance you happened to use your “back up” card, the one you only use for special or emergency purchases?
Were you looking for a payee of Chicago Reader? (Nothing gets billed by the Straight Dope which is merely a product of the Chicago Reader and does not have a financial existence of its own.)
Everything on this end appears to be in order. You’re good until next March.
It’ll show up eventually. In the meantime just relax.
