Not only are you an irresponsible pet owner...

Yeah, I was thinking along the same lines.

That day on the porch, after we’d saved the dog and my friend was telling us about the lack of supervision with the kids, I said something like, “Ungrateful bitch. See if I return one of your kids I find wandering the streets.” That was before the toddler darting into traffic incident.

Problem with, uh, rescuing the dog is that it might still end up back with the same owner if it has a microchip.

If the owner is uncaring as you say, it’s unlikely that he will pay the fine to get the dog back (at least there’s fines here).

One could always hope, I suppose.

Oh- an update! Can I hijack the hijack?

Friend-across-from-the-losers has reported that now the man of the house hangs out in the front yard while the kids are outside. I still think it would probably be safer for the kids in the backyard (unless it’s full of rusty farm equipment or something) considering the high rate of traffic on that road, but hell, it’s a start.

There used to be this horrible woman who lived across the street from me. She used to scream at her 2 kids constantly (you could hear her screeching even when she had all her windows closed. She also had a black cat who she never allowed in the house. I overheard her telling someone once that it was because she “had white couches and a white carpet and didn’t want his hair everywhere”. One day last winter, when the temperature dipped to -30, I saw that poor cat huddled in a corner of their porch. I tried to catch him to see if I could bring him in for some warmth and food, but he was skittish (can’t blame him), and kept running away before I could grab him. I reported her to family & children’s services, but I don’t know if anything was ever done.
