Not scary, but could be

Last night while driving home from work I went by the park. It is a fairly large park with multiple man-made lakes and it gets all foggy at night and sorta spooky. I love it. It brings to mind suspense stories. I enjoy going by there.

Well it in turn reminded me of the time my mom and I had taken a couple of kids to a hockey game and dad had decided to stay home. When we got home at 11pm, mom said to come quickly, dad was acting funny. Well we bundled him up and rushed him to the emergency room of the VA hospital. They took him right in. Mom and I proceeded to wait. While waiting in an almost empty VA emergency room waiting area I noticed mom starting to get a little tired so I offered to go search the hospital for an IV of caffeine. Off I went.

As I roamed the hospital, there was no one about in the halls. They were pristine white, very bright, but very quiet and totally deserted. It was a bit disconcerting. But instead of being frightened, I was intrigued. What I started imagining instead was how the great Alfred Hitchcock would have used this kind of setting for a movie. It had all of the elements he seemed to enjoy putting into suspense mystery movies. I finally found a soda machine and headed back to mom. On the way back I continued to create this movie background in my head when I saw a person dash across the hall. My heart beat faster until I added this person to the script. Of course this person was in real life only a hospital worker but I figure Mr. Hitchcock would have used him as a red herring.

I made it back to the waiting room without incident. My mom was in conversation with another lady whose husband was also having to make a late night visit to the emergency room. My story of the “spooky” hallways to mom and her new waiting room friend added a nice humorous relief to a stress filled night. They found nothing wrong with dad except he was suffering from a bad 24-hour bug.

Ah this was just pointless stuff I must share.

Sometimes I get freaked out by the most lame things. Mostly, I get scared for other people. If it’s just me, I normally end up laughing at myself and it goes away. I mean, what’s the worst thing that could happen? I get abducted by strange insect-looking aliens who slowly pull my guts out with paperclips while feasting on my skin. That’s not so bad eh?

But seriously, that foggy/spooky scene you described sounds like something I’d associate with peace and contemplation. Strange how some things can affect different people in such different ways.
