Note to self: install Christmas inflatables before onset of Saskatchewan permafrost

Chilblained fingers.

Cold knees from kneeling in snow.

Stake for laser light snapped off.

Broken hammer from trying to pound tent stakes into permafrost.

Snoopy & Woodstock now flying, and Kevin standing tall.

Mrs Piper and Piper Cub approve.

Forcing myself to drink hot chocolate and Screech to warm up.

I’ve never dealt with inflatable Christmas decorations, but I have not yet laid out my extension cord for the car’s block heater. Since we’ve been enjoying (ha!) temps of -16C or so lately, maybe I should. Especially if it means that I’ve earned myself a nice glass or two of Scotch afterwards.

I’m in an area expected to get VERY high winds tomorrow (we’re talking gusts up to 70mph - EEEEEK) and authorities are telling people to deflate their inflatables and put away any loose decorations or lawn furniture.

They already canceled public school for tomorrow where I am. Very high winds and thunderstorms. I’ll be listening to it from the dentist’s chair and then the donation lounge at the blood bank.

Are you in Kansas?

Record high temperatures expected today in Chicago of 61.

Also supposed to get up to 60mph wind gusts.

Is it the end of the world yet?

By definition, shouldn’t there be no onset of permafrost?

Make that a high of 66 F expected!

You are correct. Our friend @Northern_Piper lives in balmy Regina, SK which is only frozen for 8.5-10 months of the year, and is exaggerating slightly.

I once lived about 200 miles south of there and I assure you, it’s frozen solid 8-10 months of the year, but the rest of the year it’s only partly thawed.

Oh you southerners and your wacky tall tales! :stuck_out_tongue:

Nebraska

That’s a Canadian rum, yes?

Same thing.

I was in the car at 10am and it was already 61.

Fake edit: I just went back out to the car here at work and it’s 65 at 2pm.

My broken hammer says otherwise!

I nearly had a heart attack opening my gas bill. I can’t imagine what it would have been if this had been a cold December.

This storm is going to be crazy tonight. In the southern portion of MN, everyone was told to deflate their inflatables and batten down the hatches. Tornado watches are posted.

Yes, it’s windy here as well. Not turning them on.
