Shame on your husband’s brother, but I can’t say I approve of this kind of guilt-by-association statement. “Palin’s a Fundie? I know a Fundie who does bad things!”
From such thought processes are born statements like “Obama pals around with terrorists.”
No, I didn’t realize that. I don’t care enough one way or the other to verify it or ask for a cite so I’ll take your word for it. If that’s the case, then you’re right–all the clothes purchased for the Palins’ campaign appearances need to be returned to the RNC or donor.
It does seem kind of hard on the kids though. Yeah, yeah, no doubt there aren’t any exceptions for kids either. But Palin’s kids really got dragged from pillar to post, not to mention exposed to relentless publicity. It’s pretty harsh to give them pretty new clothes then yank them away. I’d hope Sarah and Todd Palin would pony up for the kids’ new duds at least.
I was wondering why the kids weren’t in school, myself. Especially the oldest daughter. Honey, if you’re about to become a 17-year-old mother, you better damn sure get at least a high school diploma to your name.
Exactly. I kept saying to all who would listen–do they go to school? Malia and Sasha are in school most of the time. Why isn’t Piper in school? I had washed my hands of Bristol (since she seemed to be an au pair for her mother and brother). No idea re Willow, the other girl. And all I felt was bad for that baby. So much for any kind of routine etc. That kind of vagabond existence is not good for kids, IMO. What did she prove by it? I wonder when the book deals start…
I do. There are limits on what gifts you can give to politicians for their personal use. If someone gave her $150,000 in cash would you be okay with it as long as she paid the taxes?
And what are the clothes doing in Alaska? They were bought to use while campaigning. If there’s one state Sarah Palin didn’t need to campaign in, it’s Alaska.
There are lots of claims and counter-claims, and I’ll wait until the whole thing is sorted out. But when there are suggestions that a vice presidential candidate is accepting a gift worth $150,000, we damn well better get to the bottom of it.
I mostly mentioned that because there was talk that she would have to pay taxes on the clothes and her response was that they were on loan from the RNC and not hers to keep. So, I feel pretty sure if she was told she had to pay taxes on them, she’d definitely give them back to the RNC.
