Notice: Rule Addition on Screen Names

[Moderator Hat: ON]

The Administration has made a change to the rules of this message board. They have added the following:

“Only one screen name is permitted per user. If you wish to change screen names please notify the webmaster and we will deactivate your old screen name. Use of multiple screen names is grounds for revocation of your right to post under ANY screen name. We reserve the right to refuse postings from screen names we find objectionable.”

How is this enforceable? As long as you use an anon email (hotmail and such) what’s to stop multiples?

Let’s just say that most muliple-personality trolls aren’t as smart as you are and leave it at that.

There is no way I’m giving up my Rascist Scumbag handle.

I’m keeping the Phaedrus screen name, too.

Nuttin you can do about it. <smile>

Oh, come off it, Wally.

We all know you’re really Phaedrus.

Wait a minute … that didn’t come out right…

Hear, hear!

Assuming you can and will actually crack the whip and enforce this rule - huzzahs all around.

(It would have saved me from looking like an ass with the Captain Ed business, anyway.)

I need a rule clarification. Majormd and I post from the same computer. We are quite different people. Is your policing program going to pick us up and ban both of us? I am sure there are others on this board that do the same thing. Will you e-mail someone and ask if they are a different person before you terminate the account? If you are going to do that, seems like a lot of prevarication will go on.

I recommend pleasant.”

Right. I am a different person; almost everybody here says that.

Edlyn and I also share the same home account (though I might have registered with my work account).

Ditto what PUN asked. We have five registered SDMB members at this computer. Admittedly only three have done any posting to date, but the younger two occasionally read portions of the board that I send to them, and I would expect that eventually they will become contributers. Also, I’ve been known to post from Tyler’s 'puter, and Jeff, Ty, Andrea, and others have been known to post from mine.

So how will this work?

-Melin

I assume that unless you are one of the obvious, troll posters then you would not come under scrutiny.

Think about FormerAgent, Finder, Racist Scumbag etc…etc…

I’m guessing that the people this is tageted at will stick out like a sore thumb.

Well, I think the multitrolls are unlikely to admit they are using the same computer; can you imagine The Finder and FORMERAGENT saying they use the same 'puter? There goes the cloak and dagger bit. An intergral part of multitrolling is that the aliases pretend they don’t know each other, or at least that they are not in the same physical area. Any troll-acting group of aliases that use the same computer could be ID’d as a multitroll, and distinct people who use the same computer would be left alone.

It looks like the admins mean business.

How about this for a solution–

For example, Melin and PUNdit post from the same computer. So they keep only one name, say Melin. When PUN posts under Melin’s name, he signs his name at the bottom of his post.

Melin’s listed as the author, but we know PUNdit wrote the post.

If the adminsstration is going to be adamant about this, it’s one solution.

Geez, does this mean that I have to move to Texas, or PUN has to move to California?
-Melin

Hmmm Wally, do I have to move to California?
I have enjoyed being married to a doctor, I guess I could get used to a lawyer. Or are you one of the people that think Melin and Sue are the same person because they agree on so many things?
