Notre Dame Getting Blown Again?

On the Sat night ESPN wrap up show, Desmond Howard was positively giggling about this game, and kept repeating that MSU lost, because “that’s what they do. They’re Michigan State.” Not exactly balanced, professional journalism, but it was entertaining (for this disinterested observer, at least).

On the other hand…ESPN spent about 20% of their show time covering a game in which the #12 team in the country did not get beat by an unranked team. Uh…so what? Oh right…it’s Notre Dame.

I think what was most annoying was that the )@ #$(*& Spartans got my damn hopes up. Talking with my father Saturday morning, I didn’t give them much of a chance–I figured the Fighting Irish would come out screaming for blood after the thrashing the Wolverine’s handed them last week. And given State’s anemic play so far this season (woo-hoo! 27-17 over the Idaho Vandals!), it was hard to imagine them challenging a recent alleged championship contender.

I’m glad I didn’t watch that game. It was bad enough watching the scores come in on my text pager. Nine pages in a row with MSU continually expanding their lead. Could they? Maybe?! Yes–16-point lead in the fourth! They might just … Then the final score. Eeeaugh!

I kept thinking about those guys in the stands. They endured the wind and rain in the hopes of seeing ND totally pwned, and ended up just sitting there in the cold, cold rain.

Ooooooh, State fans enduring harsh conditions only to be bitterly disappointed. You know, I hadn’t really thought about that. Makes me smile, it does.

I blame all of you for jinxing this game.

On the plus side, it’s nice to realize that, on this MB, the ratio of ND haters to ND fans is apparently better than the ratio of evolutionist to creationists. I guess that I shouldn’t have expected any less from the SDMB. I love you guys.

Sports Illustrated has a special history of Notre Dame issue this week called “A Celebration of Fighting Irish Football.” That, my friends, is Notre Dame getting blown.

I was really enjoying the “real” football team on the other channel winding up thier game, confident in knowing that nd was being smote by 17 points when all of a sudden, the broadcast changes and they are up by 3!

:smack:

MSU, what did you do?

You ruined a perfectly good USC victory/BBQ party, thats what!
