Now help me identify these music videos!

Sometimes past I’ve been taken aback by the visual story of a video but have no idea who sang the song. So these images get stuck in my head. Quite a few of these videos I’ve only seen once and don’t remember the music at all. Time to help me clear out the brain spackle, folks, Help me out with these if you can:

Video #1 was by this 1980s group that sang “Wild Wild West” and had these creepy looking dancing disembodied arms waving around the American flag in mid-air.

Video #2 was done in the last ten years and featured a black R&B singer who was having an affair with a gangster’s wife or girlfriend. As I recall, the cheating lovers get taken somewhere beaten and shot. Somehow they end up in a hospital where the woman later dies. I don’t remember the song or the singer. Really operatic. Probably over the top. I used to think it was Puff Daddy but now I’m not sure. I do get an east coast vibe from the video but I could be wrong.

Video #3 - what’s the one with the dark creepy-looking dead-looking stop animation doll? And nails. And twine. Brrr.

Video #4 - Came out not too long ago. There’s a singer, singing, walking through a neighborhood and people in the neighborhood form an impromptu parade and at the end he hits a plunger and there’s a huge explosion.

Video #5 - This one was an award-winning one and really popular one. I should know this. All I can remember is that it featured these short – OH WAIT! It’s “RIGHT NOW.” Van Halen, right? Phew. Okay. I don’t feel so bad.

Video #6 - The one with the guy on fire running down the street.

Video #7 - The one with Janet Jackson and Cab Calloway.

Video #8 - the one where Tupac is an Egyptian/African King. (yes, Tupac, not Eddie Murphy)

Video #9- I’m not sure how to set this one up: but it happens at night and there’s this slo-mo shot of someone either being thrown at or thrown through a car windshield from, I think, the back of the car. I think it’s in a junkyard? Rock music.

Video #10 - I swear to God I once turned on the country music video channel and saw some guys – 3 or 4 of 'em – singing about cowboys from outer space. What was that about?

Video #11 - It’s early nineties when I saw this and the video was even earlier. Some female group. A young Rosie O’Donnell may have been one of the dancers. Yes, I know how that sounds. She wasn’t as fat.

Video #12: DEGREE OF DIFFICULTY: OFF THE HOOK. All I know it, it starred some one-hit wonder female R&B singer and a very young Damon Wayans quite possibly pre-IN LIVING COLOR appeared in the video as her n’er do well amore. A thousand points and my eternal gratitude if you know this one, 'cuz NOBDY knows the hell I’m talking about.

#3 sounds like any various and sundry Tool video, but I could be wrong. That’s all I got.

12 chances for me to be a hero, and the only one I know is #3, and SOMEONE BEAT ME TO IT!

Sounds like “Sober” from Tool. One of the best videos ever in my opinion. Oops, wrong forum for that.

#1. Escape Club: “Wild Wild West”

Video #6 is Wax’s “California,” directed by Spike Jonze.

Wayans apparently directed and acted in the music video “She’s Not My Lover” for Joyce “Fenderella” Irby, former singer for Klymaxx. There’s a synopsis of the video here.

Oh, and video #7 is “Alright.”

R Kelly with Ron Isley as the Gangster. There’s a whole series of these, sometimes with Kelly as main artist, sometimes with Isley. I think the one you want there is “Contagious”, possibly “What would you do” , I’m not sure, they all blur into one really.

#8 Was a Michel Jackson one I think - the Egyptian queen was someone famous too I think (don’t judge me on knowjing this but I’m in Europe and don’t have MTV so limited exposure to R&B, rap, country videos ok ?)

#7 Might have been a Minnie the Moocher cover ? (Now you’ll think I’m a real Jackson fan - not true)

That’s Michael Jackson’s “Remember the Time” video, where Eddie Murphy played the Egyptian pharoah. No judgment, though.

For #10, I know Kenny Rogers did this bizarre video - “Planet Texas” - a sci-fi western before ol’ Whedon got in on that act

And don’t feel bad that you didn’t remember it…Kenny himself couldn’t think of the darn thing:

Scroll down to Question #2

You guys are GOOD! I don’t mean to play favorites but I am astounded ZeroGyro found out the one with Damon Wayans in it. I had no idea he directed it, either. Good work, everybody.

#8 isn’t “Remember The Time.” I said it *wasn’t * Eddie Murphy, remember? I’m 75% sure it was Tupac. The vibe I got from this video is more west coast, kinda breezy. I only saw it for like 8 seconds.

Thanks for #2, Mr. Dribble, that sounds about right. – R Kelly and Ron Isley. I can see that.

That just leaves #4, #8, #9 and #11.

Now that you mention it, I’m going to say “Get a Job” by the Offspring, a song to the tune of “Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da” by the Beatles.

The only music video where I remember a parade and an explosion near the end is Alien Ant Farm’s remake of “Smooth Criminal”, but I haven’t watched any of the various music video stations since college, and it’s been a while.

Ding ding ding ding!

I promise to pay more attention in the future

Not that I’m doubting you, but I do remember an ancient Egypt-themed video by Noreaga for “What What,” where he probably wore a phraroah costume.

This might not be it, but are you thinking of Coldplay’s “The Scientist” maybe? It is the video where the entire thing is backward, but I am pretty sure at the end of it Chris Martin, the singer is in a car with someone, and the other person gets thrown out of the car. The video would have been from a year or two ago.

Sam Lowry. Actually, thinking about it more – did Meatloaf have a video dealing with a car or car headlights where someone when crashing through the back windshield?
