That attitude is exactly what made Obama ineffectual, and helped lead to Trump winning; the denial that the Republicans really are as bad as they act. Yes, they are that nasty. They really are bigots and sadists led by plutocrats. The Republican base * really does* want a nationwide persecution of non-whites and non-Christians, the reduction of women to second class citizens at best, the torture and murder of homosexuals and transsexuals, theocracy, plutocracy, and a general offensive against the world.
If anyone voted for Trump thinking they were going to get anything else, they are too deluded to reason with; there’s no point in trying. Trying to “reach out” to the other side has done nothing but get the Democrats burned again and again.
As for the next election? I don’t expect another meaningful national election for at least a decade or two. Voter suppression by the Republicans was already bad; with control of all three branches of government I can expect them to go all-out. The non-white vote next election is going to collapse, or rather be collapsed. They may well go after women too. They’ll certainly go after majority-Democratic districts; you can expect multiple repeats of what happened this election, with police raids to look for evidence of “voter fraud” that just happened to scoop up the registrations of all the local people and keep them from voting at all.
You won’t see another real election until things get so bad you have a nationwide protests, and the Republican base mostly dies off.
I agree completely. Whether or not we can keep him to a single term, we should make his term or terms as miserable for him as possible.
Obama, for no reason whatsoever, was treated with a humongous amount of disrespect by the right. Trump is deserving of the most disrespect and should get it, in spades.

I sold my Smith and Wesson stock shortly after the election (it had dropped about $7 a share). It had done rather well for me, more than doubling, since I bought it in December 2013, describing at the time my intent to profit off the paranoia of Americans. I rather regret not investing a lot more. The non-election of Hillary forced my hand - I was rather hoping her success would push the share price to $40 or more. Now I’m wondering if it’s worth tracking and trying to ride along with the investments of the Trump Organization. I expect if the TO, for example, invests in a Mexican factory that makes X-type Widgets, President Trump will shortly after call for a steep tariff on X-type widgets imported from China. I can’t invest directly in the TO, as it’s privately held, but maybe I can remora my way into personal profit while the U.S. shifts from reality TV (The Apprentice) to historical drama (The Borgias).
It’s a bit risky, though. Impeachment rumblings could clobber my investments overnight.

The most straightforward interpretation is that it’s a reference to the GOP primary vote, which is a measure of how many voters actually endorsed Trump’s various disqualifying character traits without the issue of having to vote against anyone in particular (except at the very end, there were simply too many choices for that to be a real factor).

Actually Trump has said there will be no more elections. He has appointed himself King for Life and that his children will take over after him.
