I was born in Juneau and grew up in Anchorage. It was always called Mt. McKinley during that time by everyone who was not an Alaska Native. When I moved back there in 1998, a lot of people were calling it Denali (note the absence of “mount”) and I easily slipped into that descriptive as a better name for it. Then Obama came along and officially changed it. I would suspect that somewhere in the next four-year regime, it will be changed back again whenever the next president finally unfucks all the seriously bad things the orange turd has done.
Ontario in English and in Hebrew on both Google and Apple Maps.
Probably some old boycott.
Hey, try hustling some Norwegians at darts and let us know how it goes! ![]()
Bad link?
Sorry. It’s working for me.
It’s a picture that says

Trump Issues Executive Order
To Rename Melania “Natalie”
I heard that Trump is renaming his penis after Mitch McConnell, because he hasn’t seen it in a long time, it doesn’t work anymore, and it’s done some disgusting things.
Due to various technical screwups apparently by Google’s mapping service, a number of Canadian sites, including some Canadian government sites, are now displaying the idiotic “Lake America” name. Google says it wasn’t intentional and is working to fix the problem.
How do you unintentionally change the name of a lake to something Trump wanted?
Canadian sites were all supposed to see “Lake Ontario”. The mistake was that the Orange Turd’s idiotic name slipped through some of the IP filters.
What makes this especially galling is that Lake Ontario spans both countries, with Canada owning the larger portion of it by over 1000 km2, and in any case Great Lakes policy is supposed to be governed by the Great Lakes International Joint Commission, established by the Boundary Waters Treaty of 1909. So the Orange Turd is demonstrating his usual wild disregard for international sensitivities, tradition, and law. The name “Lake Ontario” dates back over 400 years.
Totally stealing this.
Uh, how can any government web sites or other infrastructure be using Google anything? Is that not illegal? May as well install some Huawei routers while they are at it.
I honestly have no idea. What I read was that the LCBO, the Ontario government-run liquor store system, as well as the government-operated train and bus transit maps, Hydro One, and even the Government of Canada Housing and Infrastructure Project map were all at one point showing the "Lake America " label. There are screen shots at my previous link. If I simply go to Google Maps from my location, I see “Lake Ontario”.
This was discussed briefly in another thread, but as far as I can tell that Joint Commission has absolutely nothing to do with overseeing naming rights. Which makes sense, because why would it normally even be a question? By the time it was set up everyone had been calling it Lake Ontario for hundreds of years. It was a settled fact until a buffoon stepped in.
However legally Trump seems to be entirely in the clear. Naming and re-naming geographic features does seem to be a power held by the executive in the United States. It is of course only binding on the US government, but I imagine in a case like this Google has a set policy of following whatever naming scheme a government establishes in any given jurisdiction. Which is perfectly defensible as a policy, if somewhat craven politically in this instance.
So you are partly right - Trump is exercising wild disregard for tradition and international sensitivities. But probably not the law in this particular instance, where unfortunately he seems to have full authority to act as he did.
And here I thought changing names for purposes of affirming a new identity was woke.
Shouldn’t the spelling be “Lake Amerika”?!?
Lake Superior?
Now…Lake Obama Is Superior.
No, it’s »Amerikasee«.
I mean, kids have changed their names to piss off other people forever, too.
Here in Oz, it still comes up as ‘Ontario’ on Googlemaps.
Although the Gulf shows up as ‘Gulf of Mexico (Gulf of America)’..
I mean, seriously, this is kindergarten-level shit. I expect the next tariff idiocy will be proclaimed officially with - ‘and No Returns’!
