And this was after he had served four years as president! Inconceivable, but it happened. We certainly don’t want a black woman as president! 
Of course Trump can be gotten rid of. However, America and Americans support Trump— otherwise he would not have been elected, would have been impeached, would have been 25th-Amended, would have been otherwise neutralized (I mean to make his administration impotent), etc.
If Trump chokes on a Big Mac tomorrow, it is good that the world realizes that none of that will have changed. That is, Trump himself is not the problem.
There is a way. Our cowardly and corrupt Congress refuses to do their job and remove the mf-er for high crimes and misdemeanors. If anyone ever high crimed, it is him. But they are too bought and paid for and afraid of the MAGAs to act. History will condemn them.
That way was supposed to be Congress but it turns out they’re all cowards.
What we’re witnessing is the breakdown of the Democratic system. The checks and balances put in place with the founding of our country no longer exist. This is not America as usual. Nobody really had a plan for this. There is no scenario where we can remove the President without Congress, the Senate, or the Judiciary, and Trump owns and controls all of those.
And to be clear, the problem is not one guy. The problem is millions of complicit Republicans, many in positions of power. Republicans - almost every single one - decided they don’t want to live in a democracy any longer, and have worked in lockstep to consolidate their power. Democrats lost because we still want to live in a democracy.
If the entire democratic system is too corrupt, what are citizens supposed to do? Writing a strongly-worded letter to your local politician is not going to solve that one.
The nuclear option is a general strike or whatever it takes to force a new Constitutional Convention. Nations have survived constitutional reforms. Where are the supposed reformers who would be on it, though?
Neither is New York State; let alone Ontario County (which I live real close to.)
While not the only factor, that’s got something to do with it. Road signs, parks, tourist brochures and other promotions — there is a whole shitload of stuff with the words “Lake Ontario”. All the news stories around here are making the point that no, this isn’t binding on state or municipality or private business and ain’t nobody expecting to waste all that money.
(Well, I suppose there’s somebody, somewhere. But it sure as hell ain’t the general attitude.)
I guess the people at the forefront of that movement would be the Democratic Socialists of America, who support sweeping and radical changes to the structure of our government, but they give me the heebie jeebies.
I don’t know what the stats are in this country, but in my world it seems that the youngsters don’t vote. I don’t know what they expect as a result.
I was also fearing that the delegates (are they already Congressmen? State Legislators? Radical labor leaders?) may not be as disinterested and have the good of the nation in mind as they could. The original Constitution was the result of a lot of compromises, of course.
A lot of them are congresspeople already. The Democratic party lets them play in the sandbox. They are under the mistaken impression that they can win in a general election and their belief is a growing threat to Democratic chances of winning the next election.
The thing is, you can genuinely care about your country and the people in it and still be completely wrong.
There has been an ideological schism in the US since the nation was founded. The Constitution was deliberately vague (and boy is it vague!) in order that everyone thought they were getting what they wanted. And as a result nobody has gotten what they wanted and everyone thinks they are entitled to wildly different things.
So it’s important to understand that even when things appeared to be working in the US, they were working in spite of a permanent foundational schism. Republicans excel at exploiting this schism to get votes.
I hear Donald Trump is renaming Billy Ocean to America Ocean.
One is reminded of Tom Stoppard’s response when asked by Harold Pinter to support a proposal that the Comedy Theatre in London be renamed the Pinter Theatre - ‘Wouldn’t it just be easier to change your name to Harold Comedy?’ Perhaps Canada should unilaterally rename its neighbour the United States of Ontario.

We have gotten through so many horrific events(as most nations have) managed to keep our self respect and come out wiser on the other side. These are not new things.
It will be a slow recovery. I hope our allies can help us. (not really counting on it, of course…we are bootstrap puller uppers). At least be patient while we fix this. And it will be fixed.
*P.S.~Canadians are on the American continent as well. Our good neighbor to the north.

I’m having an ancient memory from college of one of my friends sending his friend to the store to go “buy some alcohol.”
He came back with something called Canadian Mist.
You can imagine.
(We teased Canada a lot back in the day. It was entirely good natured. Sure feels different now.)
I used to love Clearly Canadian. Don’t think I’ve even thought about it in years.
I mean, who the hell here actually calls it Meta?
I haven’t thought about this whisky in years. My parents used to regularly drink it back in the ‘70s (frequently while listening to Gordon Lightfoot). 
They seemed to alternate between this and Cutty Sark scotch whisky.
