Soon only Twitter Blue will be able to use SMS-2FA.
I bet 50,000 quatloos that this is broken on release and locks many Twitter Blue customers out of their accounts.
Agile, so very Agile.

Well, I guess driving off anyone who’s tech-savvy is one way to reduce expenses.
I sincerely don’t think he understands that in social media, the users are the product. He’s so determined to make Twitter into an exclusive subscription based system. Which would work if there were not equally good free alternatives. The CEO of Mastodon must be salivating.
Since some people on these boards put a lot of stock in what others have to say about Musk, allow me to provide an exhibit.
…the leak forced their hand. They’ve announced.
Obviously, just a disgruntled ex-employee justifiably fired thanks to Elmo’s prophetic omniscience.
Having had little respect for Twitter in general, and even less for Elmo’s “agile” flailing incompetence, I’m finding this ongoing dumpster fire more entertaining than a lot of miniseries! The most notable thing about Elmo’s incompetence is that he failed the very first and most basic test of the owner of a newly acquired business: understand and accept that you know little or nothing about the business, and enlist the advice and support of those who do, particularly senior leadership, and particularly with regard to who should run the place. And understand that the answer to that last question is not always “you, of course, oh exalted one!”.
Of course, I forgot. Musk can see things that are beyond us mere mortals (sorry Sam, but that’s the quote that just keeps on giving). Truly we are blessed to live in the era of Musk.
Sincerely,
Little Girl
Agile!

MERE MORTALS!!
AAAAAAAGH!!!
I would have been more impressed by this, if the guy had actually said why.
I’ve noticed a thing with certain leaders that they’ll be bombarded with information they don’t have the qualifications to understand and don’t want to admit it so they latch onto one or two tidbits of info that makes sense to them and then they make it almost their entire world.
In this case, it’s clear that EM was being briefed and “SMS fraud” was something he latched onto, how certain carriers are abusing Twitter to send huge amounts of SMSes on their network to force Twitter to overpay.
Now, SMS fraud is his entire world, never mind how little it is in the grand scheme of things. Entire departments and product priorities are diverted to working on the few pet issues EM feels like he understands.
So this recent change in Twitter can be understood in this light. He’s battling the carriers by no longer giving them free 2FA SMSes unless the person first signs up for Twitter Blue. Never mind the impact on the users or the bad PR this move makes, it’s EM proving he is solving a problem and that makes him a good leader.
Other leaders that also share this trait who made a lot of news between 2016-2020 can be left as an exercise for the reader.
Perhaps once one of you haters has created your fourth trillion dollar industry, your petty complaints might be worth considering.
As opposed to Elmo, who has never created anything?
I honestly cannot tell if this is sarcasm or not.
For the record, it’s not. This poster has a long history of short, content-free snipes from the Hilariously Stupid wing of the American hard right.
Yep. Scanning his posting history revealed not a single post that displayed any real effort. Very few were more than a single sentence.
As an economic historian, I cannot think of a single industry any single person created.
Words mean things.
I see, so he’s one of the “Musk is rich and; therefore, must be worthy of it” like Sam Stone types.
God, clearly, would never so bless the undeserving.
Pretty sure this is in the Bible somewhere. Maybe as a euphemism or something.
I cannot believe this 2FA news. Effectively, Twitter is charging you to keep your account safe (by current standards - not wanting to get into a sidebar about the real-world effectiveness of 2FA).
Fuck that. All he has done is given me the deadline by which my account needs to be deleted.
