Now that Elon Musk has bought Twitter - now the Pit edition (Part 1)

As someone who has worked in tech on subscription products before, my highly informed insight is that a 100% annual churn rate is typically above where we would like it to be and would be a cause for some degree of concern.

In previous reporting for Gizmodo, journalist Steven Monacelli has spoken with numerous former Twitter Blue subscribers who just can’t get rid of their subscription, blue checkmark and all, even though they canceled and haven’t paid for months.

Like some dog crap stuck to your shoe.

From that article:

Subscriptions are $8 per month – $11 on mobile.

Can someone explain this to me? If I sign up for an account, it’s the same account whether I’m on mobile or the web. What’s the difference between the two as it relates to Twitter Blue?

My guess is that the price differential assures that the revenue between the two sources is roughly equal after the app stores take their 30% cut, and giving people an incentive to cut out said app stores is a thumb in the eye of Alphabet and Apple.

I don’t know about Google, but if you buy an app on the Apple store, Apple gets a cut of ALL future purchases made inside that app. Incentivizing customers to forgo the app store is potentially worth quite a lot of money.

So is it about where you purchase the subscription, not where you use it? Or if you buy the regular subscription, does that mean you can’t log in with the mobile app?

The former. I think John Oliver talked about it here:

Google takes its pound of flesh as well. There are some minor differences in how each company approaches it, but effectively they both are going to take 15% to 30% of digital goods and services purcahses.

That only applies to digital goods and services, though.

No, you can purchase a sub directly from the company offering the sub (Spotify, Netflix, etc) and then enter your login credentials in the mobile app.

Same same for Youtube, if you make a charitable donation via that channel. I follow a cat TNR group (TinyKittens) that has feral moms giving birth, raising litters on Youtube, and YT sucks 30 percent off donations from people contributing while watching the livestream.

ETA: Currently showing mama Scotia and her kittens. Mom is wearing a weansie to keep the kittens (now being bottle-fed) from nursing on her since she had to be taken to a veterinary hospital for several days to treat a raging infection and is still on antibiotics. She’s feral but is coming around to deciding to become domesticated.

Agile racism!

And before anyone thinks that what Elon is not being groomed by the racists on the right, that is a very old way for racists to mislead with statistics:

It is getting harder for Musk groupies to defend this guy.

They agree with him on this issue. The overwhelming majority of Musk nerds are race realists.

Weird, the way that cartoon TV camera obscures the citation of the “source.” Also weird that the graphic purports to show statistics from five years ago.

Now I’m hankering for a slice of cherry pie. Surely somebody must be baking a cherry pie; otherwise why all the cherry-picking?

Looks like Elmo finally found an even bigger sucker than himself.

Thinly disguised propaganda outlets on cable TV?
Would you like to tell us more about your time on Fox ‘’‘’‘News’‘’‘’ Tucker?

Natural fit for the White Power Hour.

It’s apparently now a violation of Twitter’s rules to die.

All those boomers trying to figure out how to use Twitter…
