Now that Elon Musk has bought Twitter - now the Pit edition (Part 1)

It’s all the ADL and advertisers blocking “Freedom of Speech!” that are tanking twitter.

Wait, why are there Disney+ apps on a Tesla screen?

In any case, the picture made me laugh.

Presumably so that Elmo can watch his Iron Man 2 cameo on loop while ignoring traffic in his self-driving tommy-gun-proof death trap.

So, what is it with becoming the CEO of an Electric Car Company? Do they automatically become grifters and start spewing nonsense?

Like the CEO of Nikola (yes, Elon wanted to sue because they used Tesla’s first name). The video showing the Nikola e-truck “driving by, on the open road” was proven to be the truck rolling downhill.

The problem was Trevor Milton was lying to investors and regulators, and he just got four years and a million dollar fine.

Then, at his sentencing, he went into a Trump/Musk-esque rant.

With gems like:

My mother said there are colors in heaven that don’t exist on Earth. Your purity is broadcast in colors. For the first time in my life, excuse me, for the first time in your life, you are reviewed totally. Those who sought destruction were filth.
The process of repentance can take thousands of years on the other side. It is called Hell. Each decision is broadcast to billions of God’s creations. Our ability to absorb information is almost infinite. From that point on, I remember everything.

You have GOT to read more about this. I started with Autopian’s article:

I’m looking at @smapti’s link, and just bet that the EU reviewers are just smirking about the free evidence for the legal action linked by @Cervaise back in #8244. If confirmed, and if Brussels continues to play hardball, well, a Xitter exit from the EU isn’t exactly going to encourage MORE advertising after all…

Alternately, grifters and psychopaths are drawn to the electric car market because there’s an investment bubble right now and they see an easy way to take people’s money without ever having to deliver a product.

It’s not just electric cars of course, anytime someone can claim they have the “next big thing” and sell people in advance, it seems to lead to grift, especially if they can create and pump up the bubble themselves! Case in point, the tragi-comedy that is/was Elio Motors (Elio? Elon? Conspiracy theory GO).

It’s a fascinating read, and we have a couple of threads on it, but he short version, is another ‘maverick’ inventor promised that their brand-new, 70mpg, 3 wheel vehicle would be produced for under $7k, made with ‘all off the shelf’ components, and wouldn’t need a motorcycle license. It was to be the ultimate cheap commuter vehicle. It still claims to be happening, although it is so mired in lawsuits, delays, and even (sigh) crypto that I can’t imagine anyone giving odds.

And (back to the bubble point) recently they pivoted to making their vehicle all-electric, with a gas version coming out when popular demand was sufficient.

So yeah, creating your audience for any vaporware is key, electric cars are just a currently flashy and popular bubble to exploit.

Hilarious!

“Autopilot” is just a name,” explained a spokesperson from Tesla’s Safety Office. “We don’t expect people to turn it on, hop in the backseat, and make love to their passengers. It’s really only supposed to be used as a driver’s aide. Maybe you could reach second base while using it, third if you’re the recipient, but we don’t encourage more than that.”

Seriously, what is with Elmo and the need to have his products described as if they were sex toys? See the “I only gave Ukraine StarLink so they could Netflix and chill.”

And I just have to note again the description of a critical software fix as “offering a free update.”

Isn’t that a satire site?

I hope you realize that is satire.

In all fairness, It’s getting pretty damn hard to tell these day.

Sigh With the level of lunacy coming out of Elmo’s mouth, it really is hard to tell.

See also this very long thread, in which the video game industry version of this phenomenon plays out in real time.

Beaverton is a Canadian satire site.

I bet I can guess what thread that is, before even clicking the link - the Game Room thread about Star Citizen. Let’s see if I’m right.

ETA: Yep. I was right. But when I was reading the Elio Wikipedia article, that’s exactly what came to mind.

EU - with their probe into Xitter, will be feasting on that …

thats not how free speech works!!!

It appears Twitter is now down globally for nearly an hour now. No tweets are showing up in the feed but spaces are still working so a bunch of journalists are hanging out in spaces talking through their twitter withdrawal.
