Now that Elon Musk has bought Twitter - now the Pit edition (Part 1)

So his understanding of “free speech” is that Apple should advertise on his site even if they don’t want to?

The whole thing is kind of a deranged, rant, but then you knew that before I said it.

Adam Conover (of Adam Ruins Everything) rants about Elon, Zuckerberg, and Sam Bankman-Fried. Everything he says about Elon in the first part of the video has been covered here, but his larger point about the real harm that these billionaire idiots do to society and real people in the conclusion is worth listening to.

And something you might expect when the whole payroll department either was fired or quit:

In honor of Elon it’s the free speech zone on the sdmb.

Most likely explanation is that its not real, to some extent. Not that the coder didn’t get fired with via the email he posted, but that he probably wasn’t fired due to Musk (or anyone else) deciding that his code was bad.

Most likely situation is that getting rid of this guy was just part of Musk’s strategy to downsize his way to profitability. However according to state law he can’t do mass downsizing without granting 2 months notice or 2 months pay. The code review was just Musk’s way of making a paper trail so he could fire the guy for “cause” (the cause being Musk made a $44 billion dollar mistake) so he could get away with only giving him the 4 week severance specified in the email.

Poor babies, making six figures, and can’t meet their financial obligations without overdrawing their accounts. Cry me a river.

According to Gergely Orosz who is a software/project management blogger (I think?) who seems to have some connections with twitter employees (Again from what I surmise), a bunch of people got fired by email the night before Thanksgiving in addition to some who were given warnings, and then there was a new round of “code reviews” for the last 10 days work announced today.

Your riffing on them for bouncing checks when they make $200k, but not the world’s richest man whose bouncing checks caused the issue?

Umm, you do understand that it’s Musk and Twitter that aren’t meeting their financial obligations right?
Like I don’t already know that you clearly don’t…

Discipline is for little people.

I’m sure you’d be just fine if your employer decided to just not pay you this month, right?

No, but I also wouldn’t be bouncing checks, either.

People younger than you aren’t pulling out checkbooks and scribbling on pieces of paper.

They’ve got auto-deposit for frivolities like rent/mortgage and utilities, deducted from their checking account on a certain date…

…whether or not their new overlord has deposited their paycheck (on the date they were promised it) or not.

But they have at least a six-month cushion, right? As recommended by every financial advisor, anywhere. Why are they getting overdraft fees after one or even two late paychecks?

Oh, you sweet summer child.

ETA: @D_Anconia two above …

I have plenty of money, and plenty of cash. Almost none of which lives in my checking account.

Armed with the foreknowledge that my paychecks are about to stop it would take a couple of minutes to load my checking account with another month (or 6) of my expected cash burn. Absent that advance warning I’d be bouncing planned withdrawals a week before the second missed payroll deposit. Unless of course I noticed what was going on after the first missed deposit and filled the account from my cash reserves then.

I figure my cash management approach is pretty typical for the multiple 6 figures crowd. I earn a lot. I burn a lot. I save a lot. I don’t leave a lot earning zero in a checking account. That’d be dumb. I’m not dumb.

Now for damn sure if I did work for Twitter this month I’d not be assuming my paychecks would be arriving on time. In fact I’d assume I was being constructively dismissed even if somebody somewhere was sending me emails assuring me that Elon loved me and would take care of me. “Show me the money on time every time.” would be my mantra.

At the same time there are people who work for Twitter who have lesser jobs. Not everybody is a $200K software guru. Somebody has to be an admin clerk, security guard, IT cable-puller, etc. Folks making $30K a year. Who may not in fact have much cash cushion behind their most recent paycheck. When that paycheck unexpectedly no-shows they may not have any recourse except to start running up credit cards. If that.

It’s easy to forget that of the several thousand Twitter employees unceremoniously shoved out the door, not all are senior managers or senior developers with cushy paychecks. Rather the opposite.

I seriously doubt that anyone at Twitter is making $30K. The average salary is $118K.

Not in their fucking checking accounts. Most sensible people keep their emergency funds in an interest bearing account, as they assume their IDIOT employer will deposit their pay on time!

Do you even know what the word “average “ means? It means some make less. Many actually may make less if a few make 500k. Learn some statistics.
