This is the opposite. Cutting the deficit was always the thing Republicans talked about out loud, and they all knew not to vote to make it happen when things were quiet. I’ve been amazed the last few days that some actual Republican politicians have been critical of the big, beautiful bill because it would raise the deficit. It’s like they forgot that it’s been a consistent lie from their party for forty years.
It’s worth noting that they haven’t actually voted against it yet, but I’m amazed the talk has gotten this far.
