Now that Elon Musk has bought Twitter - now the Pit edition (Part 2)

Agreed. That’s what’s blaringly obvious to me, as well.

For a low-status male, suddenly leapfrogging above every woman would be a huge realignment of society’s pecking order to his benefit. Not hard to see the attraction in that. It’s still wrong and evil, but it’s comprehendible from a purely selfish “me and only me” POV. Which POV is very common in both low and high status people.

It’s also blindingly obviously not something any sensible woman would actually want for herself or for the sisterhood.

It very much parallels the famous LBJ quote:

Just swap out white/black for man/woman and you’re done.

There is nothing surprising, just disappointing, about watching reactionary sexism rising along with reactionary everything-else-ism.

elmo certainly believes all this too. The part he didn’t mention was he thinks men are all just possessions to. His possessions. The rightful place of the rich is astride the necks of the masses, male and female. From where they can select the few they want for whatever purpose and ignore the rest while they huddle freezing in the darkness.

Yes. These things have been observed to be fundamental to fascism. As author Jared Yates Sexton has written:

The history of the Right is a history of weaponizing insecure men.

(That’s from this short piece on Substack. Because I gave an email address to Substack some months ago, I get to these pages without any hassle; I’ll say that I haven’t noticed any spamming due to my having given them the email.)

I’d replace “insecure” with “frustrated”, but otherwise yeah, totally.

FYI substack is pretty aggressive about asking for emails, but on most channels it’s totally unnecessary; just dismiss the asking popup w no email. You can also RSS them if you want.

I read many of their channels.

My bolding there—good to know. I’ve been reading it long enough that I don’t even notice that they have my email (and as I said, I haven’t gotten any spam from them. They DO send links to their articles, but I’m happy to get those as it saves going to the site and scrolling around.)

Lol, so on brand.

The replies where he tries to fix and clarify his joke are solid gold. What a fuckin goober.

Musk sued Media Matters for America because MMFA showed that Xitter promoted pro-Nazi posts. This caused a lot of advertisers to abandon Xitter. Also Musk got the Federal Trad Administration to get involved.
Well a judge said, basically The First Amendment also applies to your critics too.

Brian

Buhbuhbut what about “rules for thee, none for me”? If you can’t shamelessly and impunibly abuse the machines of justice to crush your enemies, what good are they?

“It doesn’t count when it works against me, dammit!”

Christ, Musk is such a whiny little turd.

But we need fiber for regular bowel movements!

Don’t work - Musk will continue to provide a stream stream of excrement.

Wonderful, a man-child that can cut off service for locations at will due to drug induced hallucinations and wild suppositions. A sexual deviant who foments Nazi outlooks and propaganda on social media (in fact, rewards it) and could then force feed it over the air to all. A liar, a sycophant to monstrous world leaders, a white supremacist, a poster child for misogyny.

A whiny turd is too kind for Elon.

This part is bad enough even without the specifics of Elon’s frailties entering into it.

Tesla wants to pay Elmo one trillion dollars.

Of course Tesla’s totally independent board and all the shareholders want that. It’s such a successful company now in terms of cashflow. NOT!

Well, now that we have a regime that does NOT believe that the public should ever have access to correct information—this goal may be reachable.

All Elon has to do is get back in Donald’s good graces (hint: CASH) enough to make sure traffic-accident information is now longer visible. He can claim “zero accidents” about his robotaxis—-and no one will be able to prove him wrong.

Easy-peasy!

I assume you saw the recent news, but just in case…

https://www.reuters.com/business/autos-transportation/us-agency-ease-self-driving-vehicle-deployment-hurdles-retain-reporting-rules-2025-04-24/

Consumer Reports noted that under the new rules, vehicles with advanced driver assistance systems like Tesla Autopilot will not need to report crashes using the system unless it involves a fatality, an injured person requiring hospitalization, a pedestrian being struck, or an air bag deployment.

Not to defend either the current government or musk, but “pedestrian struck or airbags deployed” covers basically everything except “fender bender”. Many of which with human-driven cars aren’t reported to local police or insurance companies.

Having a bright line floor is good. We might quibble about where it’s placed, but these choices aren’t obviously wacky. Unlike most recent governmental actions.
