I think in The Future, that word will be common as “quisling” was in the post-war era, or as “Benedict Arnold” is even today. It will become synonymous for total ineptness (he’s a real trump!) or completely ruining a functioning system (he really trumped up the company!)

I’m trying to stop seeing/listening to/hearing of Elon these days. But it’s not easy even in far away India…he keeps popping up any time I switch on the TV.
I understand all the ranting on/about Elon. The thing is… what can realistically be done to reduce/curb his political influence ?
I don’t think Trump will get tired of him…they are very well aligned on the 2 most important things for Trump and republicans…the anti-immigrant issue and the trans issue, not to mention his enormous wealth which Trump and republicans need for the mid-terms and future elections. And Elon has committed to spending vast sums in the 2026 midterms for the GOP…even to oust progressive DA’s and getting more MAGA judges elected to the federal courts. He is also strategically planning by pulling out his businesses/industries from blue states and shifting them to red states where the political/judicial landscape will be favorable to him.
I don’t think realisitically there is a possibility of Trump dumping Elon or Elon dumping Trump. Elon burnt his bridges with the democrats and there is no going back…he is all in on Trump and the Republicans. The vice president elect JD Vance was seemingly pushed and put in place as the vp nominee by a coterie…mainly Peter Thiel, Elon Musk and Don Jr. So they have planned for the future as well.
Also see how Trump ultimately came out as per Elon’s wishes on the H1-B visa issue even against all the diehard MAGA elements. Fool he may be but Trump knows where his bread is buttered lol.
So…the question remains what can be done NOW to reduce his influence and meddling in affairs he doesn’t know much about ? His wealth, power and the way he is using both are frightening indeed.
The way he is trolling Trudeau and Starmer is frightening to see…and it is only going to increase in the near future. As “Elmo” himself put it he is the “Rightwing Soros”.
Keeping in mind this is a Pit thread, right NOW there’s almost nothing we can do - Trump proved that enough wealth (although not his own of course) and clout can squash almost any legal proceedings.
I used to hope that the EU would put a crimp in his plans as he’s dared them to put teeth to their repeated threats regarding his business practices and non-adherence to EU requirements, but the ever-spreading Right Wing / Nationalist crap that Trump loves is becoming ever-more dominant in Europe as well.
So, in all seriousness, I’m hoping that Elon will in the near future kill himself via drugs, excessive risks, and I wouldn’t say no to Odin smiting his self-righteous ass.
Once he dies, and there’s no long the hero worship and single point obstructions of others, there’s going to be countless lawsuits about his estate, people will likely realize how overvalued Tesla is, and the wealth and influence will be greatly fragmented.
Not a good answer. Not one we can influence. But one I hope happens soon.

I really can’t keep up with all the tangles anymore. Apparently Musk isn’t Dittmann, but the journalist who seems to have found the real Dittmann (who is named Adrian Dittmann and lives in Fiji) has had her account blocked and links to the story debunking the rumor now apparently can’t be posted on X anymore.
That story has holes big enough to drive a Cybertruck through, and it appeared in a right-wing British tabloid with a highly questionable reputation.
I intensely, very intensely dislike Musk’s politics. But this is indeed one good thing he did. Starlink is really helping in times of natural disasters when most or all other communication systems have failed.
Musk “SpaceX will provide free Starlink terminals to affected areas in LA by tomorrow morning”.
I saw on TV some firefighters say they using Starlink to locate the areas needing urgent help for them to rush there.
Also in the recent hurricanes in NC, Florida almost all news reports say Starlink helped the rescuers and administrators.
Putting my intense dislike for Musk aside, this is one good use of his technology.
