Tom Cruise made a couple of movies in the Dallas area in the 80s. Gay friends of mine said he was often seen in the gay bars thereabouts.
Yeah… who’s more likely to be gay… a guy in blue socks or Red Sox?
Wasn’t there a former Yankees staffer who wrote a book a few years back claiming he caught Derek Jeter in flagrante delicto with Jorge Posada?
Re: Queen Latifiah. Markxxx said this in one of the closed Ricky Martin threads.
Agreed. This is only reason I want Queen Latifah to come out so much, as opposed to it being one of those everyone knows things, but without her explicitly acknowledging so. Usually I don’t give two shits about who’s out or in, but perhaps it would be easier for young gay people in certain communities where it’s still a huge no-no if they found that many of the people they (and presumably the people who are shunning their sexuality) look up to are gay. Yes, I realize that “certain communities” is not strictly a racial/ethnic, just saying.
Well, the OP specifically forbade any “I know so and so…” but as it happens… I know so and so. And I keep telling the person I know that it can’t possibly be true and the person I know has a reason to say in reply: keep tellin’ yourself that.
Oi vay…

What about Mike Piazza? Is he still pretending to be straight? He’s a guy I’ve actually heard a couple “I know a guy who did him” stories about.
He married a Playboy bunny and she’s since popped out two kids. If he’s gay, he’s doing it all wrong.
He had a stillborn baby with his fiancée, Jennifer Syme (who was later killed in a car crash). He too seems to be doing the gay thing wrong.
Regarding gay people in professional sports - if you accept that about 10-15% of the population is gay, there are A LOT of closeted professional athletes. I can only think of a couple who have come out (who aren’t figure skaters).
But would gays gravitate toward professional athleticism? (Honest question.)
I don’t know - why wouldn’t they? (Another honest question - I’ve never pondered this before.)
Who accepts that? Aren’t the common knowledge numbers of the gay population somewhere around 6%?
Rhyming aside, I was going to say the same thing.
Why don’t we just say that every single male actor and athlete is closeted and get it over with? Isn’t this just getting silly?
I’ve often wondered that too. I don’t know any gay people at all and I can count the number of gay co-workers I’ve had over the past few years on one hand with fingers left over. I honestly don’t think there are as many gay people as some of the activists would like the think.
I think the better or more precise question (for me, anyway) would be "Would it make sense that those gays who are athletic would gravitate to sports that are less team-oriented (less pressure for camaderie/exposure) or more creative (more opportunity to freely be one’s self)?
Whatever the proper question, I think it’s highly unlikely that the proportion of gays in pro sports would be anywhere near 10 or even 5 percent.
Figure skating is certainly one of those fields where everyone assumes a huge percentage of the men would be gay… but for whatever it’s worth, Rudy Galindo (the best known openly gay skater) insists that very few are.
I saw this come up in a magazine interview. The reporter expressed surprise and skepticism when Rudy told him there weren’t many gay male skaters. Rudy replied, essentially, “I know, I know. You’d THINK there’d be lots. But there aren’t. Most of them have wives and kids. Why would I lie?”
The 10% figure is a high-end estimate – ridiculously high, IMO. This figure was derived from the Kinsey report, the methodology of which has been widely disputed. It’s a shocking statistic though, which is why it gets a lot of play. More typically, other studies report results that range from 1-2% to (IIRC) 5-6%.
I don’t know *any *fundamentalist Christians at all, and there may possibly have been one I worked with over the years. Therefore I don’t think there are really that many fundie Christians.
Or could it *possibly *be that my experience is not the norm everywhere? No?
You’ve probably known a lot more than you knew you knew.
Ted Whatshisface that had a Gay Rent Boy and then was ratted out, and the Power of God Cured him of his Gheyness.
Fred Phelps is gay.
Falwell and Baker are gay.
The outing is all that is left. They are the last to tell everyone.
