Now that the Olympics are over, what events did you watch?

I work at a brokerage firm so all the tvs are always on CNBC. So, every afternoon I could see curling and hockey coverage on CNBC. I probably caught some of every event except ice dancing and figure skating, which I avoid.

Dang, I guess I watched everything!

I was going to check off “none at all”, but then I remembered that I’d seen fragments of ski jumping, curling, and hockey on assorted public TVs.

I watched the speed skating (except the relay), ski and snowboard cross and some figure skating. I usually wouldn’t watch figure skating because I hate events that are decided by judges but the women had me entranced.

Ohh, and I watched the female Skeleton but only because it was our best chance of a medal. I found it boring.

I only watched bobsledding because it was on in between batches of figure skaters. Otherwise I really couldn’t have cared less.

I usually watch more skiing, I’m not sure what happened this year. Only caught the aerials and moguls, never saw any downhill events except in highlights.

All of the ice hockey I could find…

Cross Country 50K only because it was one right before the gold medal ice hockey game

…and the rest I caught glimpses of as highlights and “profiles” in between periods and during news broadcasts.

I was embarrassed that I watched curling, and I thought about not answering the poll, but dang if it didn’t turn out to be one of the top choices for dopers.

The Canadian curling team had some really pretty women on it.

I was about to get excited that curling was so popular. Considering that it seemed to be on 24/7 it was almost unavoidable if you wanted to watch some Olympic action. Still - good on curling.

Short track speed skating was awesome. This sport needs to go professional and allow betting.

I didn’t watch luge or skeleton. Simply not on when I was watching. Saw all the other sports listed.

I never watch opening or closing. Not at all interested.

I just realized that if figure skaters can jump, there is no reason speed skaters can’t do ice hurdles.

I would watch ice hurdles all day long.

Wow, who would’ve guessed that curling would be in the lead right now?

I saw the final games for men’s and women’s hockey. Of course, I think 90 percent of the people in the country were watching those gold-medal games. Someone told me that the streets of Bancroft were oddly empty on Sunday afternoon…

(Note: you don’t need to specify ‘ice hockey’ in this context. It’s the Winter Olympics; ice is the default.)

It was largely on in the afternoon and early evening, and it was on live - so prime “nothing else on, let’s leave it on this” time, and you don’t already know the winner. And on top of that they probably showed more raw hours of it than anything else. Would have been my guess.

I don’t know the stats for the women’s final, but for the men’s, it was an average audience of 16.6 million with 26.5 million Canadians - 80% of the country’s population - having watched some part of the game. 2/3 of the population were watching for the game winning goal. It was the largest TV audience for any event/show ever in Canada.

NBC hit records for largest number of viewers for a hockey game since the Lake Placid gold medal game, with 27.6 million viewers on average. I don’t know the peak amount.

Thisarticle has those stats, and a few more, including the suprising (to me, at least) fact that in the US, the Lillehammer games were the most watched Winter Olympics in history, with Vancouver coming in second, beating out the 2002 Salt Lake City games. I would have thought having the games at home would have beat out Norway and Canada for Americans, but apparently not!

I watched some of everything ,except I skipped the opening and closing ceremonies. I watch sports. I flip to another station during athlete interviews and medal ceremonies.

I didn’t really set out to watch any of the Olympics. I only caught a few events because I was there when other people were watching.

I don’t care about the judging, but I’ll often watch the figure skating just for the aesthetics. I just wish that the aesthetic events in the summer games featured post-pubescent women, like figure skating usually does.

The reason the Lillehammer games had such huge ratings is because those were the games of the Nancy Kerrigan/Tonya Harding incident.

I didn’t watch any and am glad that they are over.

I didn’t watch the opening/closing ceremonies, and luge/skeleton weren’t on when I could watch. Other than that, I saw some of everything. I love the winter games!
