What Olympics stuff are you psyched for?

I like the short track speed skating and downhill ski racing.

I’m also a little intrigued by the out spoken Johnny Weir, US Men’s Figure Skater. Apparently, after winning US Nats (or something) he declared “I feel like the prettiest flower in the field.”

Gotta love it.

I kind of like the opening ceremonies, too. They’re always crazy.

Starts today.

Sorry for the duplicate.

You could merge this with Equipoise’s thread.

(wasn’t he the guy with the duplicated and ignored “Oscars” thread. I don’t want him to get a complex :D)

I like the hockey and seeing how the different teams approach the game. You see a lot more variety in style than you do in the NHL.

The downhill is fun the way they ski so close to being out of control.

Short track speed skating and all the spills.

Curling. Call me crazy but that’s an interesting strategic game.

They had it on ESPN a few months ago on some afternoon. It’s very interesting to watch. And, the US tends to suck at it.

I’m not interested in this year’s Olympics at all. I think it’s because my only option is to watch it on NBC, which does a horrible job of broadcasting the games.

You’re crazy. And so am I. I’ll be recording the curling.

And the bobsledding. I wonder how Jamaica will do this year.

Biathlon, baby.

Well, cross-country, too, but I think it’s even more exciting when they let 'em shoot things

The ‘Biathlon’ concept needs to be expanded. Imagine how much better the figure skating would be if they had to sing during the program.

Boarding. Lindsey Jacobellis is a friend of my cousin’s, in addition to being a right little hottie.

Speedskating. I dunno how well Chris Witty’s expected to do this time out, but I love watching her. She’s going to carry the flag in the opening exercises too.

I can’t WAIT for the subjective biased scoring of figure skating.

(If it isn’t timed or measured, it has no place in my olympics.)

Luge and Bobsledding. I also like Curling and Ski Jump.

Women’s Hockey
Men’s Hockey
Curling
Speed Skating (all versions)
Biathlon
X-Country Skiing

Hope my wife tapes the opening ceremonies though.

Hey Barbarian. Is there no way to get a CBC feed downwhere you are?

I read a little about the changes. Are you saying it should be better this time around?

Nah, make them throw a discus coming out of one of those spins. Factor the distance thrown into the final score. NOW we’re talking!

Hockey (Men and Women’s)
Curling
Speed Skating

Anything that I get to watch over the next few weeks, I’ll enjoy. CBC will do another good job and the Olympics will be a welcome break from the stress of mid-terms. They just better not interfere with the hockey games.

I think they’re broadcasting on NBC, CNBC, Bravo. I think all the stuff on NBC is in HD. Also, Dish Network is carrying an “all olympics” channel (9399) that may or may not be in HD. I don’t know yet. And, I think I heard it’s an Italian feed.

They also have a channel during the olympics that will feature a screen with “thumbnails” of all those screens, so you can check out what’s on each of them, and then just go to that one.

I like the downhill skiing events, and the bobsleds. Speed skating is fun, too. Basically, I like most of the events that have objective scoring.

I’ve set the reminder for 10:00 PST for the opening ceremonies. An hour and a half to go…

Ski Jumping!!! Since moving back to the US, I get absolutely no coverage of FIS ski jumping season, so this’ll be my only chance to watch it. It’s an exciting season, too, with Czech Jakub Janda and Finn Janne Ahonen running neck and neck for the lead. (I’ve been watching Janda for years, now, and it’s impressive to see him make the jump from a middle-of-the-pack jumper to number one in the World Cup. I used to follow Malysz, and he had his few years of complete dominance, but he’s just not the same jumper anymore.) Kuettel and Ljoekelsoey of Switzerland and Norway will be fun to watch too. Actually, the Norweigians and Austrians in general have the potential for spots on the podium.

But who knows? The Olympics are funny. Last time around, it was Simon Amman–who wasn’t really finishing in the Top 5 that year (I think he ended up 7th overall)–who finished with golds in both the K90 and K120. It’ll be fun to watch.

I could always bribe someone in the satellite room to leave the CBC up on an in-house channel 24/7 and live at work for the next 2 weeks. But the company may frown on me watching a different network all the time
