I like the short track speed skating and downhill ski racing.
I’m also a little intrigued by the out spoken Johnny Weir, US Men’s Figure Skater. Apparently, after winning US Nats (or something) he declared “I feel like the prettiest flower in the field.”
Gotta love it.
I kind of like the opening ceremonies, too. They’re always crazy.
I’m not interested in this year’s Olympics at all. I think it’s because my only option is to watch it on NBC, which does a horrible job of broadcasting the games.
Boarding. Lindsey Jacobellis is a friend of my cousin’s, in addition to being a right little hottie.
Speedskating. I dunno how well Chris Witty’s expected to do this time out, but I love watching her. She’s going to carry the flag in the opening exercises too.
Anything that I get to watch over the next few weeks, I’ll enjoy. CBC will do another good job and the Olympics will be a welcome break from the stress of mid-terms. They just better not interfere with the hockey games.
I think they’re broadcasting on NBC, CNBC, Bravo. I think all the stuff on NBC is in HD. Also, Dish Network is carrying an “all olympics” channel (9399) that may or may not be in HD. I don’t know yet. And, I think I heard it’s an Italian feed.
They also have a channel during the olympics that will feature a screen with “thumbnails” of all those screens, so you can check out what’s on each of them, and then just go to that one.
Ski Jumping!!! Since moving back to the US, I get absolutely no coverage of FIS ski jumping season, so this’ll be my only chance to watch it. It’s an exciting season, too, with Czech Jakub Janda and Finn Janne Ahonen running neck and neck for the lead. (I’ve been watching Janda for years, now, and it’s impressive to see him make the jump from a middle-of-the-pack jumper to number one in the World Cup. I used to follow Malysz, and he had his few years of complete dominance, but he’s just not the same jumper anymore.) Kuettel and Ljoekelsoey of Switzerland and Norway will be fun to watch too. Actually, the Norweigians and Austrians in general have the potential for spots on the podium.
But who knows? The Olympics are funny. Last time around, it was Simon Amman–who wasn’t really finishing in the Top 5 that year (I think he ended up 7th overall)–who finished with golds in both the K90 and K120. It’ll be fun to watch.
I could always bribe someone in the satellite room to leave the CBC up on an in-house channel 24/7 and live at work for the next 2 weeks. But the company may frown on me watching a different network all the time
