So my wife and I went up to our small log home we just had built to drop off my drums (we’re moving in by the ford escort wagon load). I opened the door from the basement to the outside. This door is actually at the bottom of a few steps that lead up to a bilco door (one of those angled basement doors you see in the scary movies) . I open the basement door and at my feet is what looks like a small pile of debris that was maybe collected there by the wind. Upon closer inspection, there was a pile of fluff on top. What is this? Upon closer inspection still this pile of fluff lies atop a very neat pile of straw. What is this pile of fluff made of? Well, this little critter went around the outside of the house and collected a portion of the multitude of cigarette butts left by the construction crew, tore off the paper, and pulled apart the filter so it fluffed out. This is what it used to line it’s nest. Kind of rank, but pretty ingenious, I thought. We still can’t figure out how the mouse got in there.
