So enough of the stories of things that didn’t go right after hurricane Katrina, here is a story of the little power company that could.

After Katrina hit Here is the shape Mississippi Power was in:
Customers without power: 100%
Transmission and distribution facilities lost: 65%
Generating capacity available: 3%
Power lines: 1,000 miles down
Poles: 8,900 down
Transmission towers: 300 damaged

So what did they do? Management got out of the way and let people work. In 12 days power had been restored to every customer.

This should be a case study at business schools on crisis management.

This company rocks.

What a great article. I really needed to see something positive having to do with the responce to the storm. This should be mandantory reading for management personnel in both Utilities sector and Local and Federal Goverment. They should be given a medal or something.
