Often a story is merely a vehicle for the author’s intended message. In this case, given the context of the story, is anyone here willing to dispute the author’s conclusion: “Hold on tight to your treasures, and never trust anyone, ever.”
It works inside the story, and the cold reception it has received here pulls the concept to the forefront as a self-fulfilling prophesy–author was a fool to trust The Board with his fruits. Advanced as art, I can only assume he predicted the rejection as well. I’m not even being silly here. Fear of cold rejection due to an avant garde presentation is a big part of why I password lock my own writing and have no intention of giving it to others.
