As I was flipping through the television channels Saturday evening, I came across Sabado Gigante (Telemundo network, Don Francisco, '50s-style variety program, etc., etc.) and froze. DF was standing with two body-painted women. At first, I couldn’t tell whether they had anything on or were instead wearing a minimal costume under their body paint. Then DF had them turn around, and you could tell quite clearly (bare asses, 'nuff said!) that they didn’t have anything on.
Not that I’m complaining in the least but isn’t that sort of thing forbidden on broadcast television except in the middle of the night? The time this happened was about 7:30pm give or take. Or does body paint count as enough “covering” that they weren’t breaking any rules (bare asses being excused, of course, by the fact that you can see as much with a thong bikini)?
If I recall correctly, cable networks are technically allowed to go much farther than broadcast networks (since cable is opt-in) as far as language, nudity, etc. Not that they can be obscene (though who can draw the line on obscene these days) but that bodypainting is one of those things that Telemundo can get away with and NBC, for example, cannot.
Factor in the more relaxed Hispanic attitude towards sex, and it doesn’t really surprise me. Sorry I couldn’t be more specific, but I’m sure more thorough replies with plenty of cites will follow.

Yep. And if I had seen this on cable, I wouldn’t have given the legal/regulatory aspect of two naked women on television a second thought. But this was on broadcast television. Hence my question.
Sabado Gigante–renews my theory that the station that shows this must show a sexy chica (w/ jiggly cleavage and/or booty) every 30 seconds. It’s like some sort of law
This may explain why my SO will watch it with a gleeful fascination even though he barely speaks Spanish.
I guess I’m the only one who saw that Sports Illustrated swimsuit show a couple ‘a years ago that featured a few models wearing nothin’ but painted-on “swimsuits”. I think it was on TBS, or maybe it was syndicated, I’m not sure, but it definitely wasn’t premium cable, because there were commercials.
