Nudies and Stooges and Witches, Oh My!

…so I finally got around to getting the Universal Monsters Invisible Man collection, right? The original Invisible Man, with Claude Rains, as well as The Invisible Man Returns, The Invisible Agent, The Invisible Woman, and Revenge Of The Invisible Man, and a documentary.

I hadn’t seen *Invisible Woman * since I was twelve or thirteen. I remembered it being something of a cute little romantic comedy, although I saw it on the late night horror show. I popped it in.

Yes, it was much more of a romantic comedy than a horror movie. Furthermore, it was obviously one of those week-and-a-half, crank’m-out-fast wartime productions from Universal, peppered with whoever was sitting around the Universal lot that week… but still skillfully and cheerfully done. Fine popcorn movie.

And the dotty old professor who invents the inviso-machine? Where have I seen his housekeeper before?

(I’ll get you, my pretty! And your little dog, too!)

Ohmighod. Is that Margaret Hamilton? Oz’s Wicked Witch? I do believe it is!

Later, some not-too-bright gangsters decide to steal the Prof’s inviso-machine. One of them in particular looked oddly familiar, especially in profile. Who the hell was that? Voice is familiar, too… oh my sacred Jiffy Pop, it’s SHEMP HOWARD! As a gangster! A goofy, bumbling comical gangster, true, but…

Oh, man. Money well spent…
