Nuit Blanche. Do you know it? Do you attend?

I went to our city’s Nuit Blanche, (translation: white night, meaning: to go all night), last night and had a blast.

It’s just music, art, and weirdness, all interactive, and goes from 9pm to 3am. We are currently have our Fringe festival this week, as well, so the two just dovetail together nicely.

So how about it? Do you have this in your town? Do you attend? Love it, or hate it?

Really?

I thought, at the very least, other Canadian cities would be familiar with this. I know Toronto and Montreal both have them. Mine’s not an especially large city, or terribly liberal even.

Making art at the art gallery, watching funky super 8 films projected onto a downtown building, in an alley, dancers on the church lawn, blacksmith on the main street. I enjoyed the last stop best not because the video display was that great or the music, which it barely was, but it was in a darkened cathedral. I’ve been in it before but never in darkness it was quite cool.

Well, then, I’ll just hope for y’all that one day your city gets to host such an event because I found it no end of entertaining and exceedingly odd.

Sorry, I just saw this thread about 2 minutes ago…

I didn’t know there was one in London - that’s cool!

This year will be the first time in about 4 years that I will be in town for Toronto’s Nuit Blanche and I’m looking forward to participating. The thing I love the most about Nuit Blanche is that this is the one where artists & performers reach out to an audience that is expecting something free, wild and unusual. You can try out some of your craziest ideas and they go over well.

I think it sounds llike something my friend runs in Leeds (he works for the arts department of the city council) but it’s called Light Night here. It always seems like a lovely experience.
