Nukes found in Iraq last night?

This morning (Wed. 07/21/04) I heard on the news (WLZR radio) that overnight some nuclear warheads were found burried in Irag!

Problem is, I can’t find the story anywhere else. Not on the web, t.v., nor radio.
I called the station and asked them what their source was for the story, but they said the news director was gone for the day and they couldn’t answer my question.

Has anyone else heard this story?

Al-Sabah, a local rag in Tikrit, Iraq, has reported it, but so far the Iraqi government and US forces in Tikrit have denied the story.

I did. I was near a radio that had the Rush Limbaugh show(I wasn’t in control of said radio) and he was reading some news report about nukes found buried near Tikrit.

Knowing to take such reports with a grain of salt, I checked it out and so far:

Nothing on CNN. Nothing on Fox News. Nothing on BBC.

Reuters UK has a story from 7 hours ago about it. It said that US officals are investigating and the Iraqi defense ministry called the report “Stupid”.

The report appears false:

Apparently the story appeared yesterday in a regional Iraqi newspaper, and was picked up for the UPI wire. Denials all around, and frankly, the chance of Iraq actually haveing possessed working nukes (presumably purchased), since it absolutely could not have constructed them itself) is vanishingly small.

Crap, that should be the “Iraqi Interior Ministry”.

So…no destitute former Soviet Bloc country would have mislaid a couple in Iraq’s general direction in exchange for an accidental misplacement of hard currency? I thought that was one of the worries about chaos in Central Yurp.

Don’t fret pk, I know CJ personally and she gets her news from the internet like the rest of us. I’ll call her and see if she can elaborate.
You can also e-mail her in the future at cwendt@lazer103.com (public address), she’s pretty good at answering e-mails.

To me it is very amazing. I would have never thought it. That just goes to show that the longer you hang around this old earth the more you learn.

I mean, who knew Rush Linbaugh still had a show…

Not impossible, just highly unlikely. Any such discussion gets off the factual and into the speculative, however, so I’ll just withdraw my editorial comment and leave it at that.

Given the hype over ANY possible report of nuclear weapons activity in Iraq, you have to take it with a grain of salt. If they reported that “radioactive material” had been found, I’d wait to see if it turned out to be camp lantern mantles.
